Guest guest
How do people work and make their food. I seem to get in a rut if I am tired.I watch grandkids all day and by the end of the day am tired, so when that happens I either have a pot of chicken soup ready, or make salmon and have my green beans already. In the winter I dont each much salads. I eat my fruit in the morning mostly.Sometimes I get up in the middle of the night and am hungry and dont know what to eat.Sometime I eat the souffle bread, but dont know what to eat for a midnight snack or a snack before bed. -- JHscd 4 yearscd
Guest guest
Well I munch on carrots, green olives, dill pickles, and celery. Can you eat the yogurt? I have a bowl of yogurt every evening too. I can't do peanut butter, but hopefully soon I will. So I'd eat peanutbutter on apples or celery. That would hold you through the night. Guest guest
Hi J.H.-- I'm a working single mom of twin 10 year old boys and Yes, it is a hardship to cook SCD way. I am a good cook and have always prepared meals for my family, but I find it hard to have food for work and to cook meals for me and the kids, especially when I come home exhausted. I sympathize with you. I didn't always do the right thing in the beginning, but now I have evolved so that on Sundays, I make a big baking sheet of roasted veggies-you mentioned in the winter no salads, me too. I take whole red peppers, sliced carrots, sliced butternut squash. sliced onions, etc,. brush with olive oil and salt on baking sheets covered with aluminum foil ( easy clean up ) and roast in the oven at 450 or so until, soft, caramelized. In the summer I do the same on the grill but add zucchini, and yellow squash. Then I put them in the fridge and eat it all week long, even cold some are good. I use my crockpot and make chilis, roasts, stews which I package up and take to work with the veggies. I make a bunch of hard boiled eggs to snack on when the hungry horrors hit and dip legal, canned artichoke hearts in a legal mayo/ mustard dip. I have ripe banana's with peanut butter ( I love Smucker's all natural PB--no salt added and add my own kosher salt so I know it's truly legal. I also snack on pork rinds as a snack because it feels like I'm eating 'chips'--it's salty, crunchy and fatty! I also just love having my yogurt and fruit and honey--it's a treat. There are prepackaged foods that make life easier and I use them-- for example, I buy the legal granola from JK Gourmet and put it in my yogurt as you would a cereal--great breakfast and great easy and fast snack. JK also has legal 'biscotti' that is quite good--nice with tea or coffee. Of course, this all assumes that you can tolerate these foods--I figured if you are eating salads you are somewhat advanced. I also take the legal Lara bars to work and in my purse for whenevers. Hope some of these ideas help you. Guest guest
The Larabars I use are legal, as according to at the No More Crohn's site. She has a list of legal Larabars. The Granola from JK gourmet is By Jody Bager, author of Grain Free Gourmet cookbook and she has only SCD legal foods on her website/shop. http://www.jkgourmet.ca/index.htm You should check it out--she has some great prepared SCD legal foods that might make your life easier. I never would have suggested non legal foods to you. There are some Larabars that are illegal, and around 10 yummy flavors that ARE legal!! http://nomorecrohns.com/preparedproducts.aspx also has other prepared legal foods suggestions--one I found at Whole Foods--Applegate farms Turkey dogs--there's only one specific brand that is legal and I eat them all the time. If you are interested, I know of other legal prepared foods that I am currently using and would be happy to share. Hope that clears up the legal issue, Terry Re: Re: cooking rut, or no time Thank you for reminding me, yes I too have an extra freezer and will spend the next few days building up my stash... Guest guest
J. H., I am 100 per cent SCD. I do know that these foods are 100% legal. You can see Marilyn's post below and she agrees. I tolerate all fruits. The legal Larabars only contain fruit and nuts. The illegal ones are to be avoided. I can't afford to be GF, I have UC. And, happy to say, in remission with 100% SCD. I am also weaning off my Lialda, I am doing so well on my 100% SCD. My understanding is the owner of JK Gourmet is an avid SCD'er and knew Elaine well--her remission was due to SCD and she decided to market some SCD foods just for the reason I reached out to you in the first place--to help other SCDers with food issues. I resent your superior tone in your post. Good luck to you, too. Guest guest
I agree totally! I live about 1 1/2 hours from Jodi Bager of JK Gourmet and have resorted to her premade products when in a pinch. They are wonderful and 100% legal! She also did a consultation with me when I first embarked on this SCD journey and she's a wonderful lady and always helpful. If you are just eating gf, good luck JH, Don't ever claim I am not 100% SCD again. In case you've forgotten, I'm the one who makes all her own tomato sauce by hand -- and who lost the produce of 100+ pounds of tomatoes in Hurricane Katrina. Along with a freezer full of pastured meats and local-farm vegetables and fruits. Try doing a little research -- you would find out the granola recommended is an SCD granola. JK Gourmet IS an SCD-legal company, and the authors are the authors of the GRAIN FREE GOURMET books. I make my own " larabars, " thank you. But even Raman Prasad has mentioned using Larabars occasionally. I do have some around for emergencies, but that's all. Even the ones I make myself I can't have very often because I don't tolerate much fruit. Your tone is unacceptable. Guest guest
Hi Terry,I don't remember the brand but I found some at HEB in a glass jar. The HEB I went to was a big, nice one that has a lot of their products that they carry in their Central Market stores (Central Market is very similar to Whole Foods). I don't know if they would have them in one of their smaller stores. I would suggest trying some place like Whole Foods or a specialty market, if y'all don't have HEB and Central Market where you live.Best wishes,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999, SCD 2002 Speaking of olives--all the ones I find have carageenan added. Guest guest
You might try mixing a little honey into your legal peanut butter. Supposedly, it makes it taste more like " regular " peanut butter. Haven't tried it myself though, so don't know for sure. Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > Oh, poop! Katy, how do you know this? Guest guest
For a super duper delicious PB treat, you could make this topping. While raw, it tastes just like reeces pieces. Cooked on top of apples it is utterly amazing and since I ate the entire pie, I threw myself into a flare I've been having a really really hard time coming out of. I guess what sent me into the flare was eating a bowl of it w/o eggs a week after I ate the pie. It was so good just all mixed up in the bowl w/o the egg. http://www.scdrecipe.com/recipes-pie/ Dang PB.
