Guest guest
Just today my friend, who had surgery in Fresno at Valley Surgical, was in San Francisco talking to her husband's Dr at the VA hospital. they are scheduling her husband for WLS, rny, in august. The Dr said no popcorn, nuts, celery for the rest of your life! My DR, the wonderful Dr Liu at UCLA, never said that, nor did hers, Dr Higa. Anyone else get a list of " never agains " from your dr? Meri Dr Liu, UCLA, 3-8-00 -96 RE: failure rates *************** one of the things we learned last year is that there are actually people who were starting these surgeries with absolutely NO program in place AT ALL. I cannot imagine such a thing! ++++++++++++++
Guest guest
I eat everything you mentioned and am 18 mos. post-op. popcorn is not a problem at all, celery I remove the strings from, if I find a wad of " fiber " in my mouth from celery, mango, pineapple or whatever, I discreetly dispose of it in a napkin. The only thing I was told to avoid FOREVER is coconut. Guest guest
No milk, no sugar. That's it. As far as substances. My body says no milk, no sugar and maybe rice 'n chicken quarterly, but don't push your luck, lady. LOL! As far as I'm concerned, popcorn is binge food. Nervous eating, busy hands food. Not enough harm in there to hurt me, so if I need that hand-to-mouth thing, popcorn. I just came off a long celery & squirt cheese kick. Done now. I have diverticulosis (the condition, not flared since 1993), so in theory, I am to avoid nuts & seeds for THAT. DURING strawberry season??? I think NOT! Guest guest
I've heard coconut before. Wonder why? I'd avoid it anyway, personally. Belongs in the pile with onions & fish. But Don eats it, as do many others. Well, they also eat fish & onions, so what do they know? Seems that the pulp is supposed to collect in our new tummies like a cat's hairball and has to be removed surgicaly. Other than that he says that I SHOULD never drink sugared beverages again. I eat popcorn (in moderation), nuts (fairly often) and celery (all the time)! Did he tell them why they were not to eat these items? Guest guest
I have been eating oranges since my surgery almost three years ago without problem. I wonder how these docs come up with some of these " forbidden foods " .
