Guest guest
There are several of us on this list that I know of who are OR/WA Kaiser members and had surgery last year without a program in place -- at least one that we could figure out. But with the help of this list and encouraging PCPs who were willing to listen when we brought them the information we found online, and an excellent surgeon, we learned most of what was needed. Now Kaiser is beginning a very well ordered program for WLS and it will be exciting to see how it goes. I just hope they include us older post ops in the support groups they are forming. So far we haven't been invited. I have felt fortunate through this whole adventure to have the internet and especially this list. I've learned more here of usable value to me than I've learned anyplace else. Of course you all know that already. Margo Power
Guest guest
There are dangers even in these lists. I am glad we have the lists, but I can't tell you how many times I have gotten frantic calls from our patients who have read something or been told something on a list or on obesityhelp.com or who the heck knows where, that has scared them to death. It only takes a second to make someone who is uncertain about what they are doing panic and then it takes forever for me to convince them they will be ok. I guess we all just have to be careful what we say or advise people even if our intentions are good. Michele
Guest guest
Well, grassroots, seems to be par for the course. We teach from where we are learning it, by living it....... Slower this way, but at least we have this forum, unlike many who came before us. I'm EXTREMELY thankful for those squeaky wheels who would NOT be silenced about their particular area of interest and have helped even the most stubborn among us. OK, there's still BOB, but maybe the SECOND most stubborn among us. Each one has their particular " thing " and it is SO helpful. Except those exercise people. Can someone DO something about 'em? Guest guest
Hey there Mother....I exercise daily and don't miss a day unless I have too. I love getting up at 5:30 AM (not!!!) to go to the gym.....I don't remember the last time I slept past 6am even on holidays and weekends. My gym closed on Christmas (the NERVE of them) and I even went out for a 2 hr walk in -35degree weather (what was I thinking????) Guest guest
> Except those > exercise people. Can someone DO something > about 'em? this is funny - i thought that way too just a few months ago - couldn't bring myself to say the 'E' word even - thoughts of childhood gym class, profuse sweating, etc. now i enjoy the power walking program i started a few months ago and am finally starting to enjoy the weights. i couldn't go 2-3 days without the walking, the friends who i walk with and the conversation - even though we are huffing and puffing up the hills part of the way and are sore some nights. the skin is firming up and making it worth it. but i can relate to THOSE EXERCISE PEOPLE comments. sue [swVa - enjoying the florida sunshine] __________________________________________________
