Guest guest
<<Then I went to a Ladies Clothing store that was going out of business and got a $79 dress for $8 and it *says* size 10 on the lable. I KNOW it isn't a 10, probably a 12 or 14 but hey, this will be the one where I just happen to forget to tuck the lable in LOL.>> Along this vein, has anybody besides me found that the more pricey the garment, the smaller the size you can wear? I was trying on stuff at an upscale resale shop the other day and was fitting into 12's. But at the places I normally shop...Old Navy, Fashion Bug, etc. ...I can't even begin to wear a 12. Liz Claiborne stuff was the best...I could wear mediums!!! I'm guessing this is because the designers are catering to the whims of wealthy women who want to feel they are smaller than they actually are??? Guest guest
Ol Liz Claiborne is the best that way. Other designers are not as generous. However, that could be because they don't have to cut as many garments from the same cloth to make a profit. le Fernandes
Guest guest
I don't know about regular clothing, but I found that formals ran small. I generally wear a size 18, but had to buy a size 22 when buying my formal dress. 24's were WAY too big and 20's were too snug, so it was 22 or not at all. Guest guest
Don't you guys remember when Oprah was a size 26 and said she wore a 14? This is why... the better clothes run WAY bigger. Actually Oprah is close to a size 26 again, but that is another subject.... you know the effectiveness of dieting at all that... Guest guest
One thing that the comic cat Garfield said is " Diet is DIE with a T!!! " I dieted my way up to 463 lbs. Maybe that's the key for those " poor souls " that need to gain weight, put em on a diet..... I still love to eat, that hasn't changed but my attitude has and I can now associate what goes in my mouth with how I feel. FINALLY.... Guest guest
Sizes vary from designer to designer; sometimes from garment to garment. You just need to accept that and not get way too caught up in the number. Early on, when I was most definitely a Large, I fit into a medium suit at Casual Corner. Guest guest
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO true. AS I said, I have a pr of shorts that SAY 2. I cannot wear a 2. The dress I wore to Dr Fox' Christmas party this year is marked 13/14. That's quite a span, huh? The pic of that size 13/14 dress is on my web site, so you an see it wasn't all that roomy. I think perhaps it was mismarked, and lucky me, a true 14 could not wear it, but a size 5 would never try it on! But I liked it, so I tried it. Got it less than half price! LOL! Guest guest
That is definitely a great example of how this whole size thing is pretty darn insane. In spite of all I said though I have to admit I am overjoyed at being a size 14 and being a medium. It just makes me giddy as it is something I never ever thought possible for me. I thought that maybe, if I were very lucky, I would return to that 16W size where I felt so good. That really was the most I expected from surgery. It seems that if the garment is made overseas that it takes a larger size to fit. I wonder if that is because folks overseas are smaller than the average American? I have sizes in my closet that range from 20W to 12W. Yesterday I tried on a shirt that I bought at (where else?) Wal-Mart right after surgery for a goal shirt. I only got it because it was a size 14W and cost a whole $3.00! But it fits! And it fits a little loose. I NEVER thought that I (the queen of BIG) would ever fit into a size 14! Now I have hopes of fitting into a 12 or (MAYBE) even a 10! Does anybody else out there sew? I have noticed that my patterns say that I am a 16 according to my body measurments. Haven't wanted to sew up any of my material when I know that I may not be able to wear what I make in a few weeks! I am hoping that with PS that I will drop another size or so. I have a lot of redundant skin....ALOT! I will deal with that this winter when it is cool enough to wear the girdle that my PS gives you after surgery. It's to warm in Alabama to do that in the summertime! Guest guest
Two of my best post-op moments: 1) I order the usual X-large from Lands End and the short sleeves reached past my elbows and the shoulders half-way down my arms. I was heading to the phone to chew someone out for sending me the wrong items when I realized I wasn't DoubleDave anymore. 2) A lady in a c/w store that sold blue jeans asked me if I wanted " slim fit. " The whole brain just shut down as the jaw dropped to the floor. Was she making fun of me? How did she know I used to be fat? How could she be so cruel? I was actually at a loss for words until I realized she was being utterly sincere. I'm over buying the wrong size thing now. It just takes a couple of years. Guest guest
One of my staff sews. She's very involved in Renaissance doings. She had catalogues in here one day. OH MY GOSH! She whipped up a corset for another staff to wear under her wedding dress to put everything PRECISELY where it needed to be that day. WOW! Anyone remember that British Sterling commercial where the gorgeous redhead rides slowly up on a white horse and hands the handsome hunk a silver tray with British Sterling? I WANT THAT DRESS! And now, it looks potential. Whatever for? I dunno, but if I could fulfill a childhood dream for $20, I'm going for it. And it will NOT have a size tag on it! Guest guest
Hey, I resemble that remark! I just love it that I can wear size 4 Levi's, even if they are " baggy " style, yet tight on me...hmmm. Never mind what it does to my crotch. Seriously though, the 6's were just too baggy, the 4's a little too tight. I was thinking that after I had my surgery (lower body lift), the 4's would fit perfectly (x'ing fingers and toes, including camel toes). I'm still at home, I haven't even made it to DC yet. Deere is keeping me too busy, insisting I ride him every chance I get. Yes, Glenn is jealous. Guest guest
I am no longer hiding under a bag, but you should have to look twice to see if it is shirt or skin, IMHO! The other day in Office Max, saw a tall slender grl, 15-16. I was thinking about why one would need to bikini wax and I SAW why. The shirts are more than skin tight, pants hung below the belly curve. Shockingly below. I thought, O. K. LOVE to be that thin & smooth, no question, but I think as odd as I am, I would be wearing clothes on my gender identification parts. Maybe I'm just old or old fashioned. **Please forgive " laptop fingers " --nothing is where it is supposed to be!** www.vitalady.com Re: Ego strokes & Sizes > In a message dated 06/04/2001 1:23:20 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > vitalady@... writes: > > > HAHAH!
