Guest guest
Hi J, I know I have problems because I have Chrons disease and I've had to have about 2 feet of my small intestines removed in 2 different surgeries. What is normal for me as far as bowel movements go would be considered diareahha for anyone else. After I eat, I will almost always have to go to the bathroom within 15 minutes (this is called dumping syndrome). I usually test at the low normal for B-12 levels so I know I don't absorb correctly. The last lab results I recieved also show that I am gluten sensitive which will cause problems. BMs that " float " are indicative of fat malabsorption (if I remember correctly if not of something else). As far as tests go, your best bet would probably be to have different vitamin levels checked and see where they fall. If you have several that are low or low normal, you may have a problem. There is also a test specific to Vit. B-12 absorption if I remember correctly. Of course, I can't remember what it is....Anyone...Anyone.... Hope this is somewhat helpful! Guest guest
One of the easiest ways to tell is undigested food in your stool or lumps and ridges. Your stool should be really smooth with the food compacted into a smooth stool with no visible larger particles. For example, if I eat a carrot and I am not absorbing properly, I might see a small bit of carrot in the stool. If the colon is working properly, I would not see that and it all would just be digest and fine particles. Cheri -----Original Message----- Hey there Cherie or anyone who knows about such things, How do you know you have malabsorption issues? Are there tests?
