No, it's not okay for newbies, since kefir on this diet is a very, very, very advanced food. You could do the same with SCD homemade yogurt, however, though I would separate them by a few more hours to let the yogurt have full effect. But start the yogurt very slowly. Guest guest
Hi Tonya and welcome.Kefir is considered an advanced food. SCD yogurt is a better bet until you've been on the diet for a while and some healing has taken place. Go to http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/kefir.htm or http://tinyurl.com/85jld6 to see Elaine what said about kefir. And you should separate the yogurt from the antibiotic by about 3 hours or so.Best wishes,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999, SCD 2002To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 11:31:07 AMSubject: QUESTION............................. Guest guest
Welcome to the list, Tonya! 1.) Can you drink kefir while taking antibiotics? I take my antibiotic around 8:30 am and drink about 2 to 3 oz. of kefir around 7:00 pm. Does anyone on here know if that is Ok or not??? Kefir is not SCD legal -- or at least, it is a very advanced food and is not suitable when you are beginning the diet. Are you only taking the single dose of antibiotics per day? I usually take my probiotics midway between doses. >> 2.) Also, is there anyone on here that has had or does have Diverticulitis? How much has the diet helped? << SCD is intended to help all manner of digestive issues, including diverticulitis. I can't say that I did have it because my gut issues were never formally diagnosed. My grandmother died of complications of diverticulitis, though. Two weeks ago, I had a colonoscopy. No sign of UC, Crohn's, or diverticulitis, or anything else.
