Guest guest
I so relate! I am currently on day 20 of the diet – and things have finally turned a corner. So it is worth hanging in there. I lost 10 lbs the first week b/c I was going SO often. I don’t have a lot of suggestions b/c I’m so new. But I know that too much yogurt or DCCC was causing quite a problem for me. I cut it out. I haven’t had an egg for weeks either. Hang in there! Sylvia SCD – day 20 Crohn’s 1999 From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of culleyphoto Sent: January-22-09 4:58 PM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: Questioning SCD I am on Day 7. I have done more D trips today than any day in my life. Might I need to remove something that is assumed can be in Intro. Trying to be fanatic. What have I ate? Yesterday I started with Chicken Thighs seasoned with Thyme. Grape Juice with Sparkling water. Then yogurt and Honey. Apple Cider and Sparkling water. Then Yogurt and honey and OJ Gelatin. Then Thighs in a broth/SCD mayo mix Grape juice and Sparkling water. Today. 5 times I've have Yogurt with DCCC and splash of honey. I had a pork chop and drank warm chicken broth. Been drinking more water. I am about to fix something for dinner. No Fruit drinks yet. I quit Previcid because it has a side effect of D. I quit Oscal because it had a large number of ingredients. Quit my multi cause it had iron. It was suggested to be patient. I am concerned I may be causing the D. The D is very minimal. But the urgency is extreme. Tomorrow I was going to add scrambled eggs and cheddar. I am scared! Am I just ridding myself of bad bugs? I think I may be be dehydrating. If you need any additional info please send me a note. I'll be watching. Thanks so much, CD 10/08 SCD 7 Days Lialda and Entocort EC

Guest guest
Hello a: I had real constipation problems when I first started. There are a number of things you can try to help you, like 100% pure prune nector (diluted) or prune juice, or dried prunes soaked and boiled... Miralax is also very good for constipation. Try to avoid cheese for a while and things that normally would make you constipated. If you need more information on this, please let me know. Also, eat alot alot of vegatables. I hope you feel better soon but give it some time and be patient. You shall be rewarded ) GERDS and chronic C SCD 9.5 months > > I am on day 14 and feeling miserable. Guest guest
Also, some people with C find that adding in almond flour is helpful as a way to push things along. Guest guest
As others have said, too much yogurt in the beginning can be a big problem. I had to wait to start yogurt after 2 weeks and I started with a TBS a day and worked my way up from there. When I quit eating yogurt a few months ago (long story), I was up to 3 7 oz. jars a day with no problem. Cheese was a no no for the first few weeks too. I mostly ate chicken with broth where I had blended the carrots only back into the broth, grape gelatin and boiled eggs. After about 2 weeks, I could tolerate a little cheddar cheese on an omelet and very ripe bananas cooked as banana pancakes and cooked apples. It was very slow going for me but it has really paid off. I've been med free for almost a year!!!! Well cooked, peeled and deseeded zucchini, well cooked carrots, and french style green beans were the first veggies I tolerated. Check your meat and make sure there are no added broths. In the beginning, the chicken I was purchasing had broth added and I didn't know it. When I switched to chicken w/o broth, I saw improvement. Good luck, Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 1 year > > I am on Day 7. I have done more D trips today than any day in my life. Might I need to remove something that is assumed can be in Intro. Guest guest
I too suffered from C, gas and bloating the first couple months on the diet. I was taking magnesium citrate but found it made my symptoms worse. What I do now is cooked 4 or 5 prunes down in about a half cup of OJ until the OJ is thick and I eat that. I always have a BM the next day and it doesn't cause any gas or bloating. Hang in there though. The C was really bad for me. I wouldn't go for 4 days at a time even taking the magnesium (which may have actually worsened the problem). The 3 months before starting SCD I had D every day so it was a weird change for me. Just check your foods over and over and over and make sure there are no illegals cause food companies are always changing everything because it doesn't bother the majority of people (or they don't know it bothers them). Every few days, try a new cooked, peeled and deseeded fruit or veggie. I did well with veggies that weren't too fibrous at first. Guest guest
I just read the other day that spinach juice and carrot juice are great for constipation. Just mix it with something tasty, like orange juice, and dilute it with water of course. Also, have you tried taking magnesium supplements? When I had constipation, I'd take at least 1000 mg a day. However, I started taking a fairly large dose of l-tryptophan at night to help me sleep and did some research. Apparently it can cause constipation. a
Guest guest
Hi ,I'm sorry you're not feeling well. The things from your list of foods that jump out at me are yogurt, grape juice, apple juice and OJ. Many people have difficulty with the yogurt and have to limit or even eliminate it in the beginning. Some people tolerate it better dripped and some people tolerate goat milk yogurt better than yogurt from cow's milk. Everyone is different and it'll take some trial and error to figure out what works best for you. Many people also have trouble with fruit juices and it sounds like you're having quite a bit. I would cut out the yogurt and fruit juice for a few days and see how you do. When you start yogurt again, try just a TBSP or less and see how that goes. Then move up from there. I know cutting out yogurt doesn't leave you with much. You could try introducing some peeled, de-seeded, well cooked zucchini or well cooked green beans. The intro is not meant to be a long term diet plan so you should move on from it and start including other foods. Elaine also said not to add eggs if you're having brisk D so eggs might not be the best thing to try right now. I hope you feel better soon.
