Guest guest
I too loved the " wooden nickels " story. It gave me a much needed smile and a great visual. I've always known too that this has to be progressive. If not why do almost all of us get progressively worse. It doesn't matter what doctors or others say, my fibro definitely has gotten worse. When I was dx in 1991 I was extremely active. I had to start giving up things one at a time with extremely active things first and as the years roled by working full time and finally in 2001 giving up working at all. I think everyday how much I would love to go back to work, but know I can't do anything for long and it wouldn't work out. It slowly but surely took my life away and I have had to make a new one that is frustrating in its lack of positive things. Even giving up church. The pews hurt my back so badly and even singing hurts my neck. I'm also too fatigued and sluggish to accomplish much of anything. That to me is definitely progressive. Take care, Marti Caroline Witte wrote: Tigger, I loved your anology too. Plus, I know for a fact that it IS progressive. Part of it is getting older, but not all of it. After my first year and a half or so of being bedridden by CFS in 72, I was able to get back to life slowly but surely. My pain was usually easily controlled by OTC meds except for migraine pain. I did *almost* everything other people did, though it was much harder for me. But year by year the symptoms and the severity of the symptoms increased. There is no way all of it can be blamed on the aging process. When I consider all the years I worked as a chef...which is VERY hard physical work...and I often worked 12 hour plus shifts and sometimes up to 2 weeks in a row with no days off...well, I'm just amazed. NO WAY could I begin to do that now. Not to say I didn't suffer a lot doing that, I did, but first of all, I HAD to have a job, as I had a child and no child support...long story...but secondly, I LOVED my job. That makes a huge difference. Except that now, I would STILL love it, but I couldn't do it despite that. So for SURE it's gotten worse and worse over the years. Nobody can tell me it hasn't. BTW, Debra, apparently not all fibromites have learned their lessons in humility. I have no doubt that woman will get her 'commupance' sooner or later. She will move into the 'next' phase, and will find nothing works for her, just as we have found out. By then she will probably have turned so many people against her she won't be able to find any support at all. I think that's part of what's happened vis a vis those new members who left without giving us a chance. They're 'newbies' with only minor symptoms, and could well get worse like the rest of us. Of course, I have heard that some people never do get very bad. If that's the case, they will compare themselves to us and consider us 'whiners' just like the normals. Rather than understanding their luck, they will simply believe if their symptoms aren't that bad, then the rest of us are making all of ours up for attention and sympathy. That sure doesn't help us at all. They seem to look down their noses at us in the same way 'normals' do. Well, now I've done my venting too..... Peace and Love Caroline That's why we are here. We DO get it. We are not drug seekers, just seekers of something that will help us live with the pain we endure. I swear if someone told me I'd feel better if I stood on my head and spit wooden nickels. you can bet I'd be on my head with lots of wooden nickels spewing out. I think it all depends on the severity of the fibro. I've had doctors say that it's not progressive.. HA! Yes, mine has been. I'm trying to stay calm because that seems to help the most. but some people just pi** me off.
