Guest guest
This is a stupid argument offered by Bush; seniors are more likely to be harmed by terrorists sneaking across our borders than by drugs. One idiot 'thief-in-uniform' at the Mexican border confiscated my antibiotics, telling me that they were made in INDIA!! I previously lived in India for over a year and their antibiotics saved my life (from Delhi belly). Bush is wrong on many issues...too bad there is no viable option in his opponent, who at least appears sane on ONE ISSUE (hey, that's how ClinTONG, the Manchurian President got in). TTFN rheumatic Candidates' Statements on Canadian Drugs Dear Group, While this is not a political forum, we should be aware of the position taken by our two leading US Presidential candidates on the importation of less expensive Canadian drugs. Kerry's speech to the 2004 National Democratic Convention included this item: " Under our plan, Medicare will negotiate lower drug prices for seniors. And all Americans will be able to buy less expensive prescription drugs from countries like Canada. " Today's Los Angeles Times reported this item on yesterday's campaign speeches by Bush in Minnesota: " Bush highlighted healthcare at each stop, an issue in which Kerry has received higher marks in national polls. The president accused Kerry of wanting to put government in charge of healthcare... The president also warned against importing drugs from Canada -- a proposal popular with seniors near the Canadian border -- saying it could pose safety threats. " I don't want people bringing in drugs that will hurt our seniors. And neither do you, " Bush said during his stop in Blaine. " I know it sounds attractive to some, importation of drugs. And it may work. But, sure enough, if we're not careful, drugs manufactured in the Third World over which we have no control could use Canada as a way to get into this state. And then we got a problem, a safety problem. " My personal opinion is that seniors (and US citizens in general) are hurt much more by price gauging by US drug companies than by a potential " safety problem " associated with drugs purchased in Canada. Could it be that Bush cares more about the profits of the US drug companies than the interests of US citizens? I wonder why. I am Canadian, and just for the record, our drugs are not imported from third world countries. The quality control is very high. Often, drugs are approved for use in the U.S. long before they are allowed in Canada partially because Canada insists on doing its own rigorous testing for safety. There are also many over the counter supplements that are much more strictly controlled here and not available to the public, often for safety reasons. It's interesting to read Bush's statements... I wonder why.>> Yes, I'm sure this is true. But both political parties are guilty of pandering to the special interests (in this case, the drug companies) because they contribute to their campaign chests if they do. It's all about money. Only through a non-partisan, grass-roots movement will anything happen to change this. The issues in this election are far more important for our country, and for the entire free world, than whether or not I can save money to buy more of the product the gouging pharma's sell.
