Hi Steph,

I'm 4 weeks post-op now, and have the same problem you have with

liquid food. My ortho told me I could already have solid food as

long as is food that doesn't need chewing, however I asked my

surgeon the same day and she told me to stick to liquids.

I've taken the middle road. I eat many liquids, but I also eat mushy

food I can swallow without chewing. I just needed something solid!

You know there's a limit in the number of shakes a human being can

withstand! :-D

Hi Steph,

I think Cammie is quite right. I know how you feel, but I don't

think asking another surgeon would help. Maybe I would go to see my

surgeon, explain in detail how difficult liquid diet has become for

you, and ask him if there would be any problem if you ate something

mushy, as long as you don't chew anything.

I'm no surgeon, but I don't see how eating something not liquid, cut

into very little pieces, as long as you don't chew it could

negatively affect your healing jaw (unless you're banded, wired or

splinted). Maybe it could affect your stomach, but I think it would

just be that. However, I'm no surgeon, so I guess the sensible

option would be explaining your concerns in detail to him and ask

for a solution.

Take care Steph, and remember that no matter how tiring this is,

it's gonna be totally worthy!
