I brought a wooden spoon with me just incase. I was 378 pounds and had open

rny but I was able to wipe myself, THANK GOD :) I think some may have trouble

if they are larger or had a problem surgery. But I did not find it that bad :)

Good Luck with yours :) God Bless,

Never once did I have any problem " WIPING " myself. Sure I was sore but I

would rather have stretched a little than have someone else wipe my butt.Even

I can answer this one... as it was my problem/is my problem. :)

I had Open RNY 7 days ago. My Incision is breast to navel and hurts like I am

going to die.

I have zero flexability in the bathroom.

First time I had a very loose bm in the hospital.. I was TERRIFIED.. I couldn't

reach my hienie.

Did I mention I just got AF as well??

So.. I rang the little bell... I asked for a Peri Bottle.... a soft squeeze

plastic bottle with a pointed end.

They told me they had none on this floor.. sorry.

I was like well.. someone has got to help me!!

A nurses aide did nothing more then pat my backside with a wet rag... I was

livid!

I felt a little better the next day and was able to somewhat maneuver myself..

As soon as I got home I took a hot shower.

If you cannot find a peri bottle.. you can something even like a douche bottle..

fill with warm water before you sit down...and

rinse area.

I swear by those little bottles.

Tongs, baby wipes, wooden spoons ...

Hi everyone. My name is Kariann and I've pretty much been a lurker. I'm

scheduled to

have Lap RNY on Dec. 16, but it might end up being open depending upon the

size of

my liver, the doctor says.

Anyway ... I've seen references on this site and on other gastric bypass group

sites to

not being able to wipe following a BM after surgery. People have suggested

using

tongs and wooden spoons with baby wipes, and others have had someone do the

wiping for them.

My question is why are you unable to wipe yourself after surgery? Does it pull

on

sutures, does it just hurt too darned much to reach behind, is this possibly

just

needed for those who were having trouble wiping before surgery and it got more

difficult after surgery, and finally, is this problem exclusive to open RNY or

do Lap

patients have this problem, too?

I'd appreciate any feedback. I don't mean to be prissy, but that would stink!

ok ok .. here is the secret to success kids... LOAD UP on PAIN MEDS ...

BEFORE you have to go!! One of two things will happen.

One:.........you wont care if you need help

Two ........ you will be able to reach without any pain.

Believe me when I tell you .....Levity..... and pain meds go a long way in

this situation.

It hurt to twist around, but got better after about 10 days. I had a lap.

Kariann, I had lap rny and had no problem with bathroom duties at all. I

warned my husband beforehand he might have to help as I have read others

needing help, but was no problem at all. Good luck with your surgery. I

will remember you in prayers.

I had no problems with wiping myself whatsoever. Yes it does hurt a

bit, especially I would imagine if you had open Surgery, (mine was

LAP) but when you are in the hospital you are on good pain medicine

and it takes the worst of the pain away. Of course everyone deals

with pain differently, but this was my experience.
