I had seen their add 2 summers ago and started to file but just didn't really think I stood a chance of getting anywhere, however, last year in September, I decided to just go for it! They started the ball rolling and when the first form showed up, I called them and found it an interesting experience. The young woman who went over the form with me, because she was typing the answers into the computer, as we went through the form, she realized they were asking the same questions over and over and, so she would just cut and paste the previous answer. And I also know that when I first applied, I got a call from the adjudicator, I refused to talk to him and he tried for a few minutes and then, it's was as if he threw up his hands and said, " Ok, I'll call them! " Everytime I received something from Social Security, I called their office --- generally they had already received the same information and we would review it if necessary. I will say, were it not for them and their hard work, I might not have won the first time out to " bat " and especially after my attitude when SS sent me to psychologist whom I felt as if I really did smart off to! But after those 2 appointments --- with a medical doctor who actually added another syndrome to my long list and the pyschologist (both of these were in November/early December last year) I wasn't at all positive that they would rule in my favor. And especially not after they decided to send me for an x-ray of my back. Before that appointment rolled around, the adjudicator called again and because his question was one that I could answer pretty simply and quickly, I told him I had had an MRI (or C- Scan) and where and also that I had had several x-rays at the one clinic I had tried to go to for nearly three years. Well, the week or so after that, he sent me a letter cancelling the appointment for the x- ray (that actually crossed one they sent reminding me to keep the appointment). That was probably back in late January/ early February and I was getting ready to call Allsup to see if they had any ideas, but I got up from the computer, saw the time and at the same time saw one of the ads for a local law firm that does little but work on SS cases, I thought " gee! I wonder if the mail is here? " So, I checked, pulled the armful out of the box, saw that the last piece could have been from SS and opened, sorted all of the other mail and then sat in my favorite chair for another minute or so with the letter still facing away from me. Finally decided I had nothing to loose, so I opened it! In reading the first few words, I was positive it was a letter of denial, but, imagine my surprise as I read more, they had determined that I had actually been disabled as of my last working day in 2004; but, because I did not file until 2005 they awarded me about 14 months in back pay. And another reason I would urge anyone to use them, is that it was their position that part of the amount awarded had been for the current month and their charge was for the previous month's which I though was something that they really did not have to concede. But I do think that shows the level of professionalism AND the standards the owner has set --- which, I am sure if you have read their info, you know the owner used to work for the department of Social Security! I also had a personal reason for using them and that is, as a native of Illinois myself and my husband spent some of his childhood in Belleville and several members of his family still live there, I have an idea of what their values are!!! Hope this helps you, Lori. > > > > > --------------------------------- > Get easy, one-click access to your favorites. Guest guest
, Thanks for the information. I had filled out an online questionare very easy questions and not alot of detail needed yet. I had a woman call me yesterday very professional. Made me feel at ease right away. She wanted to do a questionaire to see if I qualified or not. It would take 30 min. Unfortunately, i was standing in the middle of my living room freezing as I had just crawled out of the shower. LOL I told her that and before I did the interview I would like som information sent to me so my hubb could look it over, that was not a problem and under the circumstances of me standing in my living room in a towel the interview would have to wait . she said there were no Lawyers involved which floored me. Actually that is awesome and they say if I win they take I think it was 25% one time fee. as there would be back pay from something not sure what, I told her I could not remember exactly when I had bee Dx'd but she said they would track it down. The Dr. that dx'd me was a workmans cop Dr. in Yankton I had been in 2 accidents driving back and forth to work in Sioux Falls which is avout 60 miles 1way. I know that the Dr. married a girl here from Vermillion and I am sure I could find out where he went or where the records are. Do you have to go to court so they can ridicule you? Guest guest
> > , > > Thanks for the information. Lori, when I read Yankton in your email, I was ready to grab the atlas but then I read a bit more and saw Sioux Falls, so there was NO NEED for the atlas!!! Back in 1951, my father got a contract to haul Willy's Jeeps from the plant in Kenosha, WI to as far west as Cheyenne, Wyoming! He actually at the time either own or bought a second truck and car hauler as he and another fellow from my home town made those trips back and forth. It really was perfect as he and my mother decided to move us to Sioux Falls! And it was also unfortunate that either Henry J. Kaiser sold his interest in Willy's Jeeps or the dealer in Sioux Falls, who must have been the main supplier for the dealerships west of there, lost the contract. We did live in West Sioux for nearly 2 years and my brat of a younger sister was born in Sioux Falls! When my younger sister and I would get mad at the baby, we told her the nurses had really given us an Indian baby and that she wasn't our real sister (not so difficult to believe, her skin tones are darker than ours, her eyes are brown and other than the fact that now that we are as old as we are, it was believable!) But back to Allsup, the man who founded the company, Mr. Allsup, is a former Social Security employee who opened the business in the early 1980's! And what I was shocked at when I received the letter from Social Security, they had an amount listed in the letter that was what Allsup could charge. However, they told me that as I had gotten the letter in the first half of March, it was their belief that the one portion was actually my payment for the month of March! So I don't think you can find a company that is more fair! Everyone I ever spoke to, was always very nice and courteous and could not have been more helpful. If I had a question, if the person I was speaking to did not know the answer, they would check on it and I would get a call back with in a day! I don't think the adjudicator really liked it when he called after the first info was sent to him and he called me; I told him I couldn't talk to him and that he needed to call Allsup, after a bit of grumbling he finally said " OK! " Don't know what it is like applying in South Dakota, but the people at Allsup can give you some idea about how fast they are about reaching a decision. I know they told me that I was fortunate that we were in PA as this state will reach a favorable decision faster than some states --- which I think, since I had said we are moving back to Illinois in 2008, means that it can take a LOT LONGER THERE! I know one of my classmates filed once, was turned down, filed an appeal, turned down, so the third time she got a lawyer and was awarded. In some ways it seems as if they want to see how much aggravation you can take and if you will follow through. But even if you were to use a lawyer they are only allowed by law to receive 1/4 of what you are awarded! And I am not so sure a lawyer would have treated that one month as my first month's payment. I can't imagine driving 60 miles each way to Sioux Falls, it was bad enough when we lived in the Philadelphia area and I drove 40 miles each way, most of it on the PA turnpike and I got off at the worst exit on the entire turnpike. I made it a point to stop at the post office every morning to pick up our mail, just in case there was an accident and if so, I sorted the mail! But and that was the main reason I got my first cellphone --- so I could call work in the morning or my husband at night. I don't know what the traffic was like for you, but the snow would have been my biggest concern --- I remember one year at Christmas time when my department's Christmas lunch was scheduled for a date that turned out to be ONE OF the worst snow storms I have ever driven in! One car kept passing me, throwing snow all over my windshield and not paying the least bit of attention to the road conditions. And then even worse, they got off at the same exit that I did and I had to follow them as they were also going north! Either they didn't know the road or they were in one big hurry because when you got off, there was a very steep hill to go down and then one to go up and I stayed as far back as possible. It still took me two hours to get home that day. And I'll bet you have some stories like that? Oh, I was also in an accident during those years --- 17th of December in about 1998, trying to get on the turnpike at an entrance that had 4 roads mergeing and also all of the shoppers from the biggest mall in the Philly area -- I was driving a Saturn coupe and I watched as a ' English Muffin tractor trailer rig got stuck on my driver's side mirror!!! I knew I was dead, let go of the wheel and screamed! I had just had a massage, so I was " loose " and that plus the scream are probably what prevented me from suffering any injuries. And of course the driver DID NOT WANT TO CALL the police!!! Good luck with Allsup! YOu will find that everyone in that office treats you with respect and dignity. (as a native of southern Illinois, I say it's part of that midwestern/southern hospitality thing)
Guest guest
I live in Illinois and I went through Allsup and loved them. When I first started out, I did things on my own and was denied the first two times. I then heard about Allsup and called them. They took over, we went before the judge, the judge said he would have his decision made in 30 days...well, a week later I got a letter stating that I was approved. I've heard that Illinois is one of the hardest to get approved for disability. It took me almost 3 years but it was worth it. Like someone else said, I think they try to test you to see if you will continue to fight for it or just give up. Anyway, I would recommend Allsup to anyone. ~~ ~~ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/we-love-decatur-illinois/ www.helpingheroessupport.zoomshare.com --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
Never heard of them. i wish you luck whatever you decide. I am going to try an attorney locally to get mine, since I have not worked in a very long time. I need some income though and I think since I paid in when I worked, I should have something coming to me. One can hope, lol. Guest guest
Hi , I live in IL too. Where about are you? I am in Yorkville, by Oswego. Iwas kind of looking for someone my area to talk to more but I really don't know anyone w/fibro here. We just moved here within 2 yrs. It took me a long time to get disabilty too. Not as long as you but I think anyone trying for it has a hard time proving we need it. What a shame they put ppl through to get it. I ended up crying in front of the judge & he said yes she needs it. I think he thought I was more depressed too. Which I am so sick of having this. But nothing I can do but deal w/it. tttyl, Cyndi wrote: I live in Illinois and I went through Allsup and loved them.
