The last couple of days I have noticed my heart pounding for no apparent reason. Now, I have been kind of stressed, however it seems to happen when I'm just sitting still and not doing any activity except maybe sitting at my computer. I don't have any pain, but one time it happened and I felt kind of lightheaded.

Is this just an anxiety attack or should I be concerned that it is something more?Sharon

Sharon,

Are you drinking any caffeine? Or taking Sudafed or anything

similar? That could cause your heart to pound. And, yes, it could

be an anxiety attack.

Sharon, this has happened to before.... she'll have several in a week and then she's fine for months. I think it's anxiety but you may want to check with your doc next time you go. Are you on anything for depression? Some meds can cause that too... keep track of what you're doing and when you take your meds in relation to when you have the "pounding."

That's right! Didn't you say you started a new antidepressant not too long ago?

When Denny started on his he had a very high anxiety level, and it took everything I had to keep him on it long enough to past the initial side effects.(or not to kill him--whichever)

But some people have trouble with a particular meds and never get past the anxiety so they need a different one.

Last winter I went

through a very bad bout of depression (even left school to deal with it) Anyway

back to what my point was, I was put on medication for depression and for the

first week or so I would wake up in the middle of the night with the most

horrific panic attacks I would literally spring out of bed from a peaceful sleep

and flee my room, it wasn’t until I was at the front door that I came to

my senses and realized what was going on. Strangely enough the medication that

I was put on was also used to treat panic disorders….go figure.

Hang in there, it’s

get better soon

I'm 8wks post op and here's what I had yesterday...

breakfast: 1/2 dannon light and fit yogurt

snack: protein shake

lunch: slice of deli ham, slice of swiss cheese w/a little mayo

snack: 1/2 slim fast low carb protien bar

snack: 1/2 no sugar added frozen juice bar

dinner: 4 TINY bites of prime rib, 3 small sauteed mushroomes

snack: other half of yogurt with a scoop of protein powder mixed in

At this point I am eating about every 3 hours or so and drinking

Hi Tonya,

I'm 7 months post-op.

I generally start the day with a protein shake. I'm a Richmond patient

, so I am breaking the rules by doing this - but I figure as long as my

calorie count stays low then the protein can only do me good.

Sometimes, instead of the shake, I will have Cream of Flax cereal with

some tasteless protein powder added to increase its protein content.

Either way - I get about 30 grams of protein to start my day.

For lunch - I have about 4 oz. of dense protein - ground beef, ham,

chicken, whatever. I also have a couple ounces of a veggie. Asparagus

is my favorite. Sometimes I'll have a salad, in which case the volume

will be more than 2 oz. since lettuce chews down to about nothing. If I

am out running errands or whatever, I'll have an ounce or two of jerky

instead of my regular meal. It packs a pretty good protein punch for

very few calories and is filling.

For dinner - another 4 oz. of dense protein - preferably meat, but

occasionally beans, split peas, lentils, or eggs. Also, 2 to 4 oz. of

veggies & /or fruit. Cantaloupe has become just about my favorite sweet

thing. If I am having something like chili for dinner, I might have a

few Soy & Flax Chips (from Trader Joe's - they're pretty good , both in

taste and nutrtion).

Overall, I average about 75 grams of protein and 750 calories a day. I

had Beth, the nutritionist, calculate my protein requirement (based on

my height and ideal body weight, I think) - it is less than 60 grams a

day, but I figure that the malabsorbtion makes part of this calculation

guesswork, so I try to keep my protein intake on the high side. Also, I

think that most post-ops don't count calories - I didn't start out to -

but since FitDay has the calorie count right there along with my protein

gram count, I started paying attention to it.

Just got my 6 month labs recently and everything was in the normal

range. Actually, everything was really good, except my iron levels were

in the lower part of the normal range, so I've added an additional iron

suppolement (Niferex) at Dr. Baggs request.

All the best,

Kay
