First welcome to the group its nice meeting you! What should you expect,

well you should expect to do anything and everything you can't do at this

point in your life. I started out at 327 and have lost 144 lbs, I am happy,

healthy and full of sunshine! I live life as it should have been and should

be! Depending on the surgery type and yes there are several out there, will

depend on the length of the surgery. If you don't mind me asking how much

do you weigh now? How tall are you? Do you have health problems, Do you

have children, grandchildren? Why?you may ask I ask that question for the

question: " Do You Want to Live to See their children " Do You want to see

them get married? Do You want to grow old w/ your spouse (if married that is

:)) It was the best gift I could have ever given myself. I have love, &

respect for myself for the first time is such a wild feeling! You deserve

the best, you deserve to breath, you deserve to LIVE!!!!

Thats just my little couple of cents! :)

Hugs!

Dear ,

Welcome to the GBIC website and email support group. I'm glad you've

found us!

I had an open RNY (weight loss surgery) four months ago and I've lost

over 75 pounds so far! The surgery isn't 'easy' but very do-able. I was

swimming (slowly and carefully) at three weeks post-op.

I would have this surgery again. I can't wait for this summer. I'm

hoping to join the Century Club (100 or more lost) . I recommend you reading

and researching the procedure(s) and visit a reputable bariatric surgeon in

your area. Many surgeons offer seminars that can answer all your questions.

Good luck and God bless your WLS journey!

Love,

Thanks Betsy...that is my birthday 7/17... good day to do anything important

.. Thank you for the encouragement. I have a lot of work to do. As you can

imagine my sister is at zero percentage kidney function so I have to work pretty

fast. She didn't want to bother anyone so she put off telling us how bad it

was. God love her. I just want her life to be the best it can be for as long as

it can be. I will just have to live a very clean life with only one kidney. I

do pretty much any way so no big deal...I may want to find out what you went

through and all that while I am preparing for this. I have had four major

surgeries in my life so maybe it was preparing me for this.

Thank you for your e-mail. Your sister did e-mail me and give me some info

already. That was so nice. I feel like a lost little sheep looking for it's way

home. On the other hand my heart feels so warmed by the welcome comments

everyone has sent to me..Many, many thanks to all of you. I will do my best to

forge ahead and get this accomplished.

I also have a few real great friends that know nothing about all this either

but are willing to assist me in this endeavor. I keep telling them just to

pray for the best outcome & for strength for me and my sister. She has been so

very brave. Those pumps are not easy to put in and she has had 7 in just about 6

months. She is in the hospital now recouping from the latest on Saturday.

Welcome to the group Ann ...You and your mom is in our prays.Ann Cioffi wrote: Hello, my name is Ann and I am new to this group. Twenty years ago my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, went through a lumpectomy and radiation. Now, at the age of 84 she is facing the possibility of breast cancer again. She is now in NYC, will undergo a tissue biopsy under general anesthesia on Thurs. A couple of weeks ago she noticed a sudden change in her right breast (a dimpling, I think), she went through a needle biopsy and that showed "atypical" cells. Her doctor consulted with a radiologist and a breast oncologist, all three are very concerned that her cancer is back and that it is lying in or behind scar tissue there from her first bout with breast cancer. So, she undergoes more

invasive tissue biopsy this week. The doctors will test the tissue while she is still under anesthesia and if it comes back positive they will do a mastectomy right then, before they wake her up. I'm quite concerned...the breast cancer was quite an ordeal for her 20 years ago, she is now 84. So I can't imagine what this will be like for her. She isn't dreading the diagnosis, she is dreading the whole surgical thing.....pain, healing, getting back on your feet, etc. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know all of you.
