Guest guest
Robyn - Check out this page http://www.female-healthcare.com/ . Primolut is made by Schering, this is their site. There are three versions of Primolut: Primolut N norethisterone is a progestogen, a synthetic hormone similar to a natural female sex hormone progesterone. Norethisterone has a wide variety of uses including the postponement of menstruation and the treatment of menstrual disorders such as endometriosis. In these disorders the drug is only taken on particular days during the menstrual cycle. One of the major uses for norethisterone is an ingredient of oral contraceptive preparations, either on its own or in combination with an oestrogen drug. Primolut Nor norethisterone acetate is a kind of progestin. Norethisterone acetate is used in the treatment of irregularity of menstruation, functional metrorrhagia, endometriosis, etc Primolut Depot hydroxyprogesterone caproate is a hormone used to prevent pre-term deliveries. Guest guest
Thanks for the site on Primolut N. It didn't give me much information although it looks pretty. I suppose I'm always inquisitive about the possible effects of drugs on my body nowadays. I'm taking so many drugs and my experience is that they often cause as many side effects as they "cure". Now my doctor has put me on Trisequens for the period problems. I've fought going on to HRT all these years now it looks like I have no choice. What are other people's experience of these drugs? Guest guest
Like I said before I've been on estrace for years with no problems whatsoever. BUT I do not have any uterus or ovaries, so that means I am not at the increased risk for uterine or breast cancer. My Mom still has her uterus, but no ovaries, and the few times they've tried her on HRT she bled non-stop and had to be taken off. My best friend had a hyster but still has her ovaries and she is not on HRT (she's going through menopause symptoms now to a certain extent) because she has a strong family history of breast cancer and other cancers. I guess what I'm trying to say is that each case has to be weighed individually. I'd be sure to talk to your Doc about long term side-effects. The thing is you may only need to be on it temporarily. I read that even being on it for three months helps protect against osteoporosis. Kathy PS You obviously still have hormones pumping around in there or you wouldn't be having all the bleeding, so technically you are on hormone supplementation not hormone replacement therapy. Guest guest
The thing is you may only need to be on it temporarily. I read that even being on it for three months helps protect against osteoporosis. I had been on various HRT's for 14 years and a couple of years back I went off them for a year and 1/2 and during that time I had a bone density which showed I has osteopenia. So my doc put me back on them, I was using the patch at that time. I quit taking them again either last year or the year before and my doc gave me the okay, but he said I'd need a bone density every year. But then my family has a history of osteoporosis, my Dad's mom had it really bad. So yes, it does depend on family history, how your body reacts to it, and what your Doc says. I had more hot flashes when I was on it, I don't have any now.
Guest guest
That's the only difference--the risks. Because you still have some hormone production you are at a slightly higher risk for breast and cervical cancers than if you didn't take the hormones. The other risks are the same whether it's a supplement or replacement. Also, I forgot that the medical language varies between countries, so it's possible that anyone taking hormones in Aus is considered to be on HRT. If your having alot of bleeding, you may have to bite the bullet and use it for a few months, but considering other health concerns, and the possibility that you are already anemic from the crohn's maybe the Doc is trying to avoid a D & C? Kathy RE: Primolut This HRT stuff seems like a real experiment drug to me. There seem to be so many risks involved and it seems to vary from patient to patient. I feel I'm already on enough drugs. My pharmacy bill is enormous every week. Sometimes I feel like I'm shopping in a supermarket and need a shopping trolley to carry all the drugs I'm on! It's embarrassing. So far I've had the prescription filled for the HRT medication but I haven't actually put any in my mouth. I'm really struggling with the idea of taking it. I talked it over with my husband again last night but I think I'll try to wait out the next month to see what happens this time. It's a risk I'm prepared to take, I think?!? (((Hugs))) Robyn P.S. Kathy, you talked about it being a hormone "supplement" for me rather than HRT, what difference does that make to the risks involved in taking it? wrote: The thing is you may only need to be on it temporarily.
