Tonia, did you clarify that the blocks won't hurt IF you have a sedative that's working when you're getting them? They couldn't give me the sedative until the doctor got down there, so it never kicked in until after it was done!

Hi ,

All too true! I had some that I was totally knocked out for and never felt a thing. I don't know what happened on the last lumbar epidural, the sedative in the IV never kicked in. I felt the pinch from the local and a lot of pressure. The doctor tried to drain a small cyst and hit the nerve root. I don't know where their heads were that day, they never strapped my legs down so when he hit the nerve root my legs flew all over the room and I got sick to my stomach (even though I hadn't eaten). I swear I thought he had stuck me into an electric outlet. I am not a whiner or complainer but that one time I was screaming loud. The two nurses where rubbing my shoulders, putting cool cloths on me (I was soaked with sweat) and cleaning up the mess. I kept begging the doctor to stop he kept saying one more second and we will be done, you are doing fine. Then he started messing with the IV line in my left hand and all of a sudden clunk I was out.

When I woke up I was furious at the doctor, evidently the IV line was kinked and he didn't realize that I wasn't out, duh wonder who he thought was talking to him the entire time. I remember telling him he best make sure his patients are out before he starts the next patient. He continued to apologize but it wasn't worth him wasting his breath at that point.

It was an experience I sure never want to go through again and will not go for another unless I am out out out!

Hoping for Pain Free Days,Sandi

Hi ,

I didn't even know Regan Died until I just read this! Geesh.....

Actually, the main problem that I have with the blocks are the next day or so.....sometimes up to 3 days later. The last one I had, it took 3 days before the pain was worse, because it had affected the sciatic nerve. But, most generally, the blocks have made the RSD spread more and more into my back. So far, the only parts of my body that DOESN'T have RSD is the middle part of my back, and my left leg. I know that it's in my left hip, and also on the bottom of my left foot.....but, so far, the top of my left foot, calf, and thigh is fine. My left knee I'm not too sure about yet.

Plus, the only Internal area that I have it so far that I know of is my abdomen. My GP is possibly thinking that I might also now have it in my bowel/bladder area.....mainly the bowel. I'm hoping that its just IBS or Crohn's Disease and Not RSD.

But, I have a funny feeling about having another block done on my leg.......I feel like something is going to happen.....and not for the good.

Well, I just heard that Reagan died, so my article will probably be pushed back again--won't be surprised anyway. Won't know until I get the paper. You obviously didn't have to stay at the hospital!

Love,

N.

Sandi,

Oh that sounds so awful, you poor thing! I can't believe he did not realize you were out...between talking to you, you screaming and your legs flying out of control he should have noticed....? I'm glad you chewed him out and told him to check his patients before he starts...it seems so obvious but doctors never cease to amaze me. I had one knee surgery where I was awake because I had no insurance at the time, so I tried to save money by just having a local. That was the biggest mistake...like you I could feel everything and was screaming and crying...I think they teach doctors to say "just one more minute, you're doing fine". That's all the doc kept saying to me for 20-30 minutes..lol. It was awful and taught me Never to do that again. That was my mistake, I couldn't imagine how I would be if it was the doctor's mistake. Anyway, I hope you are feeling better and that your flare is calming down. It seems we've all been suffering more lately, must be something in the air. Hang in there and I'll talk to you later.

<hugs> Lori
