Guest guest
Hi Violet, I sent your labs to my pharmacist friend. I know the 25-Hydroxy should be above 50, but not why you have high 1,25 Dihydroxy. Vitamin D Labs Can anybody interpret this? Vitamin D Panel - Nichols 25-Hydroxy Vit D 20 (range 20-100) 1, 25-Dihydroxy Vit D 67H (range 15-60)
Guest guest
the vitamin D test that matters is the 25-hydroxy. yours is 20 and is at the very bottom of the range. When our vitamin D is actullay low (as yours is) it will always make the 1,25 Dihydroxy level HIGH. Even many doctors misunderstand this... So, in essence, your need more vitamin D. When you bring your 25-D up you will see the 1,25 D go down. Hope this helps, Vitamin D Labs > Can anybody interpret this? > > Vitamin D Panel - Nichols > 25-Hydroxy Vit D 20 (range 20-100) > 1, 25-Dihydroxy Vit D 67H (range 15-60) > > I asked my doctor to check my vitamin D levels, and this is what he came > up with. Guest guest
Thank you, , Is this because the body is using the 25-hydroxy to keep enough 1,25 Dihydroxy (calcitriol?) supplying the needs of our bodies? >>>the vitamin D test that matters is the 25-hydroxy. yours is 20 and is at the very bottom of the range. Guest guest
Thank you for this! Where did you ever find this information? I just knew I was way low on vitamin D, but my doctor just kept fussing about my being high. I'm so pale, I'm practically blue, and I haven't been out in the sun in I don't know how long. I also have a ferritin problem, I'm sure. I'm wondering if there is some particular brand or type of vitamin D that I should look for? Thank you! Thank you! Guest guest
Vitamin D3 - here is a good site: http://www.lifespannutrition.com:80/products.asp?catagory=Vitamin%20D Or, if your doctor prescribes it, your insurance may buy it. >>>I'm wondering if there is some particular brand or type of vitamin D that I should look for? Guest guest
So, if my 25-Hydroxy Vitamin D is very low, do I have to take Cod Liver Oil? Is it safe to take 50000 iu of D3? How much should I take and about how long should it take to get it up to a good level? I read that it's dangerous to get too much. I'm so annoyed with my doctor, I want to sue him. Why don't they know this stuff? Aren't they interested? > > http://wnkNRk9pZ3oVo8uTMFq1OopgiCPc7A/wAr+czgCUNENaDTQVu7NeEu4jES EKj/ABpSEDSLacLFICc8Dz7Ka1GlAB1sF1NKOzVq++kEysmNvLy0BKl7RkQcPbTkCbb789QJ CoGC4oeGNPcG2Cwg3SGcq4DE4lpw91VMkqvYlCZjySxwdxTLCqT6CGudqCBo7j25ChMUSAfE HIUQ45dmNDAG6Fe3scP3UoHAExBjgUROHCk5Gn3MJ1fPxywXPsqZEAubKGdjmSNBa7AghaQ0 4OadY+lkFy6TcNn/AOGnPiIHyvKcQKwvx9Tqrys5rPC+0uTt+8weTICgcQUOWIIzFc0RqdMz oFbHuG2gTbfN50QCmM4p7apY0DU2DZOr4ZT+kvP5UuCB/H4VpW5DqbVFcwSsDtY0nEnM92Fb GTRF3LbYrqJ3h1LgRmuCJREiq4ZqG2tdtt/LtEziPLOuInN0bj4T8E768Hm49tj6Lg5NyJO4 s0AuaFac8EX4Guc7a51KS5jPiLwpORAXI91Q1jJaIUsTACwlCFeHLh9wrBtjKW51xTKhR4R+ aE51SFZG1dHbw0Rf0+R6kkvt1ORTxtH316/h83+08Ty+LMm/7ZvDXFsRIUEDM4qK9iTxy4dM 6RnhKdgP7KZC0IbvECuPEKc8e2gc5Kq9OqQMZipTDDt4VBrGC/2WF8UStaqjAe81SMS4bYyv
Guest guest
SARAH, I don't know how you ever got this all sorted out. Do you have an idea what kind of Vitamin D I would have to take? Would 50000iu D3 be the thing maybe? There are so many kinds, and everyone I read says something different....My doctor obviously has NO clue...What is your specialist's specialty called? Guest guest
My doctor is a gastro surgeon that has worked with malabsorbers for many years. I take Biotech Pharmaceuticals dry capsules D3 50,000 IU. I take 1 cap 3 times a week. http://www.bio-tech-pharm.com/ When mine was low, I was told to take 1 50,000 capsule once a day for 4 weeks. Then we retested and my levels were perfect. To Maintain that range, my doc had me take 1 cap, three times a week. I tested again in 4 weeks, it was stable, so that dosage was determined to be perfect for me. I have mine checked now once a year & it remains the same. A couple of cautions.Vitamin D is fat soluble, your body does not flush out extra, so testing is very important. Also, it is unlikely you will need the maintenance dose that I do. Most folks maintain good D levels at 50,000 1 time a week. If I were in your situation, I would get the 50,000 caps & take 1 every other day for a period of one 6 weeks, then retest. If you levels are good, drop to 1 a week, test in two months to be sure you are maintaining. You will know by those results if you need more that 1 weekly to maintain. Guest guest
Mercola says cod liver oil would be fine. somehow I don't seem to tolerate it. Could be due to my fatty acid problems. If you decide to use vit d directly you might wish to try vit D3. It is the best one. Start with 1000 mcg and gradually increase it.I don't know what is the max you can take. some says 4000 mcg some says 5000 mcg. I am not sure how long one should be taking it but as i am not being able to go out much and take enough sun light i am thinking i will probably need it for long term. test might be needed from time to time.I had been taking 1000 mcg per day for a year time and it pretty helped me. Planning to increase it to 2000 mcg.I am also trying to force myself to get some sun shine every day for at least 15 minutes. suggest you check your ferritin levels,too.. best wishes. I've tried other forms of D3 but without the same success. I buy Carlson's from www.emersonecologics.com but it's probably available elsewhere on the web too. Guest guest
I noticed their Carlson cod liver oil is $37.50. You can get the same thing at http://www.vitacost.com for $18.99. Shipping from Vitacost is always only $4.95 no matter how large your order is and they ship within 24 hours. We just buy D3 at Sam's Club and now take Krill Oil capsules instead of Carlson cod liver oil. We like the Now brand from http://www.thecatalog.com/ Delores Re: Vitamin D Labs > Violet writes: > >I'm wondering if there is some particular brand or type of vitamin D > that I should look for?> > > Hi Violet, > > I've had the best success raising my vitamin d levels with Carlson's > vitamin D from fish liver oil.
