Guest guest
Deke, Welcome to our group! We are so happy you found us. You will find a ton of information here to help you. You might want to go back and read some old posts to get an idea of how this works. Also please ask as many questions as you want. It is a long process but so worth it. First you need to get you PCP to refer you to the program.Thats the first step. Shell-165 > Hello Everyone, > > I have come to this group seeking help and information. Guest guest
A warm welcome to you, Deke. You will find people here willing to answer all questions and share their experiences with you. I am pre- op, like yourself, but I have just gotten approved by my PCP. That means she has forwarded my paperwork to some " Kaiser in the sky " group that will eventually approve or disapprove the surgery. I should warn you that it took 9 months for me to get this first step accomplished. If I'm approved, I think it will be another 6 months before the surgery is done. BUT, it's a good time to study, learn, do research on every aspect you can think of. It is major surgery, it is permanent, and it is life-changing. One thing you didn't share is where you are geographically. You will observe from postings that Kaiser has different policies in different areas. Northern and southern California are very different. If I had my druthers, I'd like to be in northern CA, but I'm not, so I'll deal with the system here. And, you can and will deal with the system wherevere you are. At times it seems complicated and difficult, but keep your eye on the final goal! My BMI is " only " 52, but I'm 60 years old, so I suspect that makes us almost equal in risk factor for the surgery. So let's stay in touch through the group, and offline if you wish, as we travel down this road! All best to you.
