Guest guest
Faith, Welcome to the group, I'm glad that you found us so you don't feel so alone dealing with this awful disease. I've had RSD for close to a year, it started in my right knee but has now spread through my whole body. I'm still waiting for some kind of treatment and work mostly from home right now. It sounds like you have a wonderful family, I wish they were more of a help to you right now. I don't have much advice to give on getting your family to understand or support your as mine are not being supportive at all, except for one of my sisters. They also live in another state so I'm alone at the moment trying to deal with this and also with Lupus as I was diagnosed with this too, along with the RSD. All I can say is I'm sure your family loves you and wants to support you, but it is so hard for anyone, I think, who doesn't deal with this kind of pain 24/7. There is a book I am reading now that I got from the RSD Association called Living with RSDS, it was written by a patient and a doctor, and in my opinion explains feelings and things we go through very well. Maybe you can get that and your family can read it too, just like a start to get them involved and to help them understand. And now you have us if you need to talk and just have someone listen or give advice...whatever you need we are here and will try to help. Where do you live? Do you have an appointment set up to get a different pain medication and are you receiving any other treatment? Welcome again and I look forward to knowing you better. <hugs> Lori
Guest guest
Chrystine, Hi I'm Lori, I've only had RSD for almost a year. You were so young when you got it, you poor thing!! I've had knee problems from the age of 14 (I'm 32) and have had many cortizone shots and many surgeries. I did not get RSD until my last surgery in April of 2003. Was yours caught fairly early, are you getting treatment for it still or is it in remission? Mine started in my knee and is now throughout my body, and am still waiting on treatment. Welcome to the group, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. = ) Lori

Guest guest
I was actually looking forward to not eating. I was sick of food and it's effect on my life. It has taken some time to change my habits and my mental habits of wanting to run to food... But you know, I don't miss too many things at all. I wanted this change so badly... I was not in fear of loosing my worst enemy! Once you start feeling the difference you will feel better and will not miss it as much as you think. You have to take care of yourself mentally as you are physically. It really does go hand in hand. It is sooo worth it. I absolutely LOVE that I do not eat NEARLY as much as I used to and I am actually getting more done because I am not spending so much time and thought on " food " . I have to admit that I SAVORED that T-Bone Steak I ate as my last meal. Yet, I was happy when I was done to know that it was going to be a VERY long time before I could ever eat that much again! I am very nervous. In the past two week I have noticed the way people treat me compare to a co-worker. She is a pretty little blonde and I am the heavy hispanic women. I am very angry over that. I will never be the same. Your " last supper " notice the quotes did you go crazy because you would not be able to eat like that again? --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better. __________________________________________________

I probably would have never even thought about this if she hadn't have done it first. We are very close and live only 3 houses from each other. So I kind of know what the experience is going to be like. This made is so much easier for me to make this decision. My only concern has been getting insurance approval. Wish me luck. Guest guest
Hi ph! Welcome to the group & congrats on the weight loss! You're doing great! Have you checked the obesity help website to see if you can find a support group in your area there? I would also suggest going to the asbs website & finding surgeons in your area. Call them. I'm sure they can point you in the right direction too! W 380/333/160 ph R Huber wrote: > My name is ph H. and I had gastric bypass on Dec. 23 2003. Guest guest
ph, I did a little searching in Milwaukee. Keep in mind I'm not from Milwaukee (wrong side of the Lake here, Grand Rapids) but I do know how to search the Internet pretty well, for what that's worth. http://columbia-stmarys.org/home_bariatric.cfm?id=557 http://www.columbia-stmarys.org/17022.cfm There's something listed here http://www.bariatricsupportcenter.com/index.php? module=pagesetter & func=viewpub & tid=6 & pid=3 October - WLS Patient Event – Milwaukee, WI, BSCI Maybe this is nearby? http://www.bariatricwi.com/PDF/2006_Support_Group_Dates.pdf Hey there's a clothing exchange! I wish we had that here in GR. Check you out though ph! 300+lbs? That's freaking insane! With all due respect to the women and how I know it's not easy losing their weight even with the surgery it just seemed to be some what more monumental for me starting out at 491 (or maybe even more). The idea of needing to lose nearly 300lbs myself just boggles my mind a little. I'm not really worried about how fast I get down to an ideal weight but I'm curious how long it took you. Also I'd be very interested to find out what sort of difficulties and/or things that are easy/standard with regards to maintaining your weight now. I'm trying to think when I was last 210lbs. I'm going to say probably middle school. It's simply amazing to me that you're down that far. Something else that I'm willing to live with but am curious about is excess skin. How's that going for you? Also, how old are you? I'm 38 and sometimes get the impression that my recovery has been helped by being younger than others (although there are plenty my age and younger too I suppose). I've considered taking a weekend road trip with my kids to Milwaukee sometime for the summer festivals and such but it didn't pan out for this summer. Maybe next summer I'll come over for a visit. Let me know if you ever make it to Michigan. Mike in GR, MI > > My name is ph H. and I had gastric bypass on Dec. 23 2003. I was > 547 lbs at the time of my sugrery and am now down to 210.
