If you're taking a 7:29 train, I would get to the station no later than 7:15. That should give you ample time to park and buy your ticket--7:00 if you're worried. I've never been to the Dublin/Pleasanton station but I understand they have oodles of parking and I don't think it will be too bad since that is near (or maybe is) the end of the line. BART in SSF is really near the hospital so you will have plenty of time to get there and maybe have juice or coffee in the cafeteria. Enjoy your ride--BART can be lots of fun and is very relaxing. I'm thinking I may even attempt it from Richmond the next time I have to go down from Sac. Oh, and make sure you have single bills for your ticket--they are much easier then large bills. The machines are picky--they will reject bills that are old and/or crumpled. You could go on line and see how much your fare is. You might as well buy a round trip ticket while you're at it--nothing worse

then fumbling at the fare machine and the train you want pulling out without you.crazyt1020 wrote:

I don't take BART during commute time, but don't those trains leave every 10-15 minutes during commute hours? If so, you should have no problem being there on time. For peace of mind, I might take the 6:00ish train, and have breakfast at Kaiser when I get there, before the meeting. Or even spend the night at The Days Inn right next door to Kaiser. They give a special rate to Kaiser patients.

It won't take long to buy your ticket at the BART station and get on board. Probably the hardest thing will be parking your car...I have found that many BART stations have inadequate parking! Maybe you can scope out the parking lot at that time a few days before, in case you want someone to drop you off at the station instead of trying to park.

Enjoy your little trip! And think how much easier it will be *next year* when you're a lot smaller! ;-)

Hi (and other Sacramento-ans),

You probably know this already, but Amtrak shares the train station with BART in Richmond. You just take Amtrak to Richmond, walk across the tracks, and get on BART. It's very easy to do, and a nice connection. My roommate does this a lot when she goes to visit her parents in Daly City.

Well duuuuuuh. I knew that and didn't even think of it. I was going to drive to Richmond!! Since we're not having pre-op classes here in Sac for November or December I was thinking of doing the BART thing by driving to Richmond--maybe I'll just park at Amtrak and go that way. It sure would be less of a headache. My daughter usually goes with me and she's never been on the train before. Probably cost about the same as gas anyway. And, they have a special shuttle from Amtrak to San Francisco which I think is included in your ticket and then you don't have to pay the transbay fares. May even be cheaper that way! Thanks for reminding me of something that had slipped my mind (that happens a lot lately!)Laurie W wrote:

Hi Colleen,

I'm so glad they took you anyway. The commute from here is a you know what--I did it for five months to and from work when we first moved to Sac. What a nightmare.

Most surgeons are a little taken with themself. I've decided that if that's what makes them so good at what they do, I'll deal with it. When my mother had a mastectomy many years ago, her surgeon thought he walked on water and I couldn't stand him. BUT, he was great at what he did and my boss at the time (who was a pediatrician) told me that's just surgeons. He said they are so much more gifted then "ordinary" doctors that for most it's just their personality.

Yes, I too am bummed about no meetings here the next two months--of all times to have to go to the city. But, I think if they told me to walk over glass to get surgery, I'd do it. I really am glad to have been reminded that we can do the Amtrak-BART thing--it's not as convenient as having your own car, but would be so much more relaxing than hasseling the traffic. Hey, if a bunch of us go down the same day, maybe Amtrack will give us a group discount (LOL)Colleen Garner wrote:

hey chris

thanks for that info on bart, when i go back i am going to do that i think, i dont do well with commute traffic we left yesterday at 6:30 and due to weather and road conditions we

didnt get there until 9:40, for an 8:30 orientation, i was prepared for them to say BYE BYE, but since so many people had problems they were very understanding.

I met dr Umbach at the meeting, I am not sure how i felt about him, he seemed a little

more god like than i would like to think , but then many drs are that way....... I liked dr stiles and and gitty very much. I am bummed about the no case management meetings in sacramento until Jan, but i am going to get this surgery come hell or highwater, i did catch a little of the afternoon support meeting but not much..................

so for the first time

signing off

colleen 275 and counting down to247 to hopefully be approved for surgery
