You'd be a rare person if you've no scratches on you. It could be as far away

as the other side of your body.

Maralee, Confused the doctors for a while too. My ankle was sore and swollen for

a week. I went to my docotr and he did tests. For gout, infection and clots. I

have to mention that due to an accident some 17 years earlier I had this same

ankle reconstructed. when the tests were negative they wanted to put me on

anti-inflamatories. I insisted on a bone and joint specialst. I went 3 days

later and he said I had ruptured the old reconstruction as the X-ray proved I

did not break anything. I was sent home with a walking velcro cast that went

from toe to knee. A blister formed on the outside of my ankle...there wasn't a

bruise of anykind. Just swelling. The blister went from a tiny thing to turning

black and purple and a hand size chunk of skin falling off in the tub....so

sorry to be so graphic. and this bacteria is confusing to all who get it. I was

one of the fortunate(BLESSED) 70% who live through it. the treatments are

aggressive, surgery with removal of mucsle and skin, hyper baric chamber,

whirlpool and water pressure treatments. Yep I had them all....now...staff

bateria are all over your skin...it is when this bacteria decides to mutate that

it gets bad...it decided that with me. You can do a google search on it for more

info...you will find strep it the more common one

gentle hugs,

That flesh eating disease really confuses me. How do you get it? How did you

know you had it if there wasn't even a sore? Just curious...

You ARE blessed, . A lady from our town passed away this fall from

this, suddenly. She was in her early thirties with young kids.

Dora, for me my ankle swelled. No bruise redspots nothing. Then it felt tight.

Then a blister appeared as it turned purple and black. At that point the nerves

were gone. Then...my skin fell off. and it started somepalce else on my ankle.

Guess I am rare....there was also blood work done. Nothing showed an infection

the first week. Do yourself a favor and look it up. You will find that it is not

uncommon for it to start just as mine did. This is why diagnosis is hard and

confusing. The total nature of the bacteria is just that...confusing...so I

guess I was being sarcastic with my opening statement. Again there wan't any

openings in my body.
