Guest guest
Hi : At the last WLS support meeting, my surgeon's OR nurse explained the " stretching " as follows: Initially, the pouch passes its contents to the intestine which is unaccustomed to accepting undigested food, since the hormones, acids etc that used to process food in the stomach, remain in the stomach and no longer work on the food input to the pouch. That is aiding in the extremely fast weight loss. After a period of time, the intestine does get used accepting that chewed up, but still undigested food, and thus is able to hold more there. So the pouch doesn't so much stretch, as it can pass more stuff down the pipe. I hope this makes sense. A. Waiting for a date in St. Louis. Guest guest
Hi Yes it does make sense, but please correct me if I'm wrong.. Here's how I understand it.. In a nutshell, you're basically saying that the pouch might not be stretching, but getting used to the food I am putting in there.. hence giving me the feeling that I can eat more now than what I could at 4-8 weeks after surgery.. ( my op was 29th Aug 2002 ) Here's a question for those who go to the support meetings regarding POST OP stuff.. Do you guys get much by way of reading material and information?? If so, I would be interested in obtaining transcripts, literature etc because we have nothing by way of actual support meetings here in Australia.. All I got was the info pamphlet that the surgeon gave me regarding this operation.. Thank you in advance and thank you RE:Pouch stretching?
