" Ahari claims that drug companies often hire former cheerleaders and ex-models, as well as former athletes and members of the military, even if they have no background in science. During their five-week training class, Ahari says he was taught sales tactics such as: * How to exceed spending limits for important clients * How to be generous with free samples to leverage sales * How to use friendships and personal gifts to foster a " quid pro quo " relationship * How to exploit sexual tension Ahari claims that he's even heard stories about sales reps helping to pay the cost of a doctor's swimming pool, or taking a doctor to a nightclub where a hostess was paid to keep him company. For this work, sales reps often earned more than researchers. On top of a base salary of $50,000 for starting reps, Ahari says, " there were four quarterly bonuses, an annual bonus, stock options, a car, 401K, great health benefits, and a $60,000 expense account. Guest guest
Stuff like this has been going on for some time and its disgusting. Pharmaceutical sales reps are sleazy and so are most doctors which is why they can foster such immoral relationships. But i have no reason to believe that dr mercola is any less shady and also out for the allmighty dollar. I have yet to hear anyone on this board say he has done anything amazing for them. He's a salesperson to me not above the people he is putting down. His entire web site is about selling tons of random products, that's it. Guest guest
I agree about Mercolla, but at least his web site has a few things good to offer. The reason I posted this is because of the discussions we all have had concerning the cost of Minocin. The fact that the drug companies cannot make a fortune off of it so they don't push it. BUT the drugs they do make a lot of money on the sales reps are given tons of resources to convince the doctors to push their meds. Also the doctors only use what's in front of their noses (they forget how to use their brains once they get a private practice). It was just an FYI of how far drug companies still go to push their meds. cooky Stuff like this has been going on for some time and its disgusting. Guest guest
I was looking at it from another angle I guess, because both conventional and alternative docs try to make money, which is fine, but when it becomes all about $ then its a problem. But you are right Cooky, you are 100% right in what you said. My own primary has tried to give me samples before but never pushed it. I am pretty disgusted by the office though because everyday they have all these pharma reps in there and one time one wanted to go in when it was MY appt time, needless to say I stopped him right in his tracks. The reps buy lunches for the WHOLE staff daily! And daily foo food coffees from Starbucks along with scones, muffins etc... I heard they take MY doc out to fancy dinners too! If she wasn't willing to RX me what I asked, I would have left long ago. But I ignore it as much as I can becasue she doesn't generally fight me on stuff. Unfortunately she isnt too interested either in learning about how to help me. But thats to be expected I guess. Guest guest
Thanks Vicki. I unfortunately stay with a GP that I dislike because he is willing to give me the meds also. Good luck to you.
