Diving into concrete - been there

Eva, do you have a sled? I think maybe you could put your garbage can on

it. I've thinking maybe a friend could drill holes on the side and run a

bungee (sp) cord though it and attach it to the sled. Might be easier then

pulling with one hand and holding on to the walker. just a thought......flora

I did the concrete dive in September but had to drive myself to the

ER holding my bone-severed nose in one hand. NO FUN.

I immediately went to an all-terrain walker ( 8 inch wheels) 15

pounds and folds nicely for the backseat. No falls since. I live

alone! Since I got the walker I've made car trips solo to St. Louis,

Winston-Salem, and Pittsburgh. The advantages as I see of a walker

over braces and canes are you can carry stuff in the walker basket,

put buffet plates on the walker seat, and become the envy of all when

you're waiting in line and have your own seat to rest on. Don't

forget I have brakes on this thing for downslopes. Think seriously

about the braces and canes because you still will not have balance

control the whole 360. All I'm missing on this SUV-style walker is a

snowblade for this darn snow.

Once a week I take my BIG rolling trash car out to the road by

manning the walker with my right hand and pulling the can behind with

my left. I'm slow but totally balanced...even though I feel like a

choo-choo train.

I have this strange feeling I'll be getting a horn for it as a

Christmas present.

Oh yes, I did get a second identical walker. one is for inside, one

for outside and car travel. The wheels with their static pick up

dirt and then release it on carpet. Nova Cruiser over the Internet

for $167, Medicare reimbursed $99 of it. 48 hour delivery.

Maybe we should start a Concrete Divers Anon. Hang in there. Once

you find a way to get your balance back under your control life will

feel so much better.

You think like me. I had thought out this elaborate pulley system

but didn't have to do it. The garbage can rolls and slides quite

easily except after a Holiday. Then I get someone to take it out for

me even if it is early.

My biggest problem right now is crossing the traffic lane in front of

WalMart or Sam's. I walk so slowly and have a close encounter with a

vehicle driven by one of the world's impatients at least once a

week. When someone is walking with me I've noticed they wait longer

but if its just me they have even accelerated towards me. I'm

thinking about a scooter but with a lift and assembly I just don't

know if its worth it. Any thoughts?
