Ugh, I don't think I can make it without some allergy med. :-/ Thanks Best wishes to all, Lorrie

Guest guest
Lil & Lorrie - Can't give you the science involved, but I too had heard that decongestants and antihistamines were not good. When I was first diagnosed with afib I had been taking claritin for allergies and was using dristan nasal spray and sudaphed for what I thought was a cold or flu. When I noticed my heart racing I read the directions for the claritin and saw that one of the side effects was rapid heart beat. So I quit using it. Finally went to the hospital because I could barely breathe. Long and short of it was afib and congestive heart failure. Electro cardioversion and later an aflutter ablation have kept me in nsr for almost 15 months now. I have resumed all my bad habits -- smoking & drinking -- but am afraid to death to use any decongestants. Those and claritin are the only old behaviors that I've eliminated. Can't be sure that means anything at all -- but in my mind it does. Doc prescribed Flonase when I was in hospital with afib and that's all I'll use now. Guest guest
I believe Sudafed and other decogetants have a heart stimulant included which can trigger afib; a variation of adrenaline, ephedrine or psuedo ephedrine. --- traveler3406 wrote: > Lil & Lorrie - Can't give you the science involved, > but I too had heard > that decongestants and antihistamines were not good. > When I was first > diagnosed with afib I had been taking claritin for > allergies and was > using dristan nasal spray and sudaphed for what I > thought was a cold or > flu. Guest guest
When I was taking Betapase I got a list of medications (both prescription and OTC) from my cardiologist that would cause me to go into A-fib. Now that I'm on Tikosyn I was told the medicines to avoid include all the same list and then some. I'm to call the cardiologist's office about any new meds before taking them. Guest guest
The only antihis tamines I was allowed to take was Claritin (sp) this is while I was on AF meds and Wafarin. It is the safest on the market.
