I was trying to point out that your attack on pharmaceutical companies in general, and cholesterol lowering drugs in particular, may not be the best advice for a " diabetes support group " . We may read different literature --- but the literature I place my faith in is published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Below is the article that I mentioned, as published in Lancet. , Charlotte NC " Aug 25, 04 For patients with type 2 Diabetes, Lipitor reduced the risk of heart attacks and strokes by 37%, according to an article published in the Lancet. The risk of both coronary heart disease and stroke are substantially increased in patients with type 2 diabetes. Previous studies have suggested that lipid (or fat) lowering with drugs like Lipitor may help prevent heart and blood vessel disease in patients with diabetes. Between November 1997 and June 2001, researchers in the UK and Ireland studied 2841 patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus from 132 centers. The patients received either a placebo (sugar pill) or Lipitor. There were fewer serious heart and blood vessel problems (heart attacks, heart cath procedures, bypass surgeries, strokes, or deaths) in patients taking Lipitor than in patients taking placebo (6% vs 9%). There were also fewer deaths in the Lipitor group than the placebo group (4% vs 6%). The authors noted, " These data extend and strengthen the evidence for more widespread use of statins for primary prevention in type 2 diabetes and show that such treatment is safe. The study published in August 2004 said, " For patients with type 2 Diabetes, Lipitor reduced the risk of heart attacks and strokes by 37%, according to an article published in the Lancet " . I have listed a longer summary in an earlier post. , Charlotte NC

So what you read proves something to you and what I read proves something different to me. No point in hashing it out. Amber
