Guest guest
Maureen, What I found most encouraging was that you said as soon as your husband and daughter came home from their drive they apologized so they had been talking about it and felt bad and that's a good sign. It's great what you have accomplished in a few days as far as getting family help. It's particularly hard waiting for a diagnosis; it took me 4 years to get a PLS diagnosis. At the recent PLS Symposium where there were 48 neurologists from all over the world, one of the things that they discussed was how long should they wait to make a PLS diagnosis and the feeling was 3 years and that's because they are ruling out other disorders plus just waiting to see how our bodies react. It's not easy but most of us have been down that road of waiting. It's a family affair and affects everyone. Best of luck and keep up your spirits. I'm one who couldn't paint---I'd be tossing the paint and brushes aside, I don't have patience for painting or sewing. I do a lot on the computer and I still volunteer at the hospital so we all have our ways of finding our " thing " . Keep us posted -- we care. Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much. Guest guest
Maureen: What wonderful news to hear that you are ALL taking the steps to help you deal with your situation. I give you ( & especially your husband as sometimes men aren't willing to admit they need help-NO OFFENCE TO THE MALE MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP). He, your daughter and yourself are stepping up to the plate and that is definitely a step in the right direction. I sincerely hope you can get your 'family life and support' back on track. It won't be an easy task but LOVE conques all (and plus you have all of us friends here for moral support any time you need it). Take care my friend and wishing you all the best. Jo. I want to say hello and a big thank you to all of you who responded to my post. My husband and daughter came back from their drive and apologised and promised they would not act that way again. well lets hope so. I made them read every one of your responses. I also took steps today to hopefully get our family back on track and this is because of you wonderful people. I rang the Australian MND (ALS) association and arranged for a counsellor to visit the family. We need a lot of help. My husband has not been coping with my illness, so much so, that in dec 2002 he had a breakdown. ever since he has not been the same towards me . We went to our local doctor today and he agreed that he should see a psychiatrist to be reassessed and he thinks that it could just be a matter of changing his anti depressant. Hubby has also agreed to see a marriage counsellor. So i feel that things are going in the right direction. I feel very happy with my life today. Just something i want to clarify from my original post is that i DONT take out the garbage. that is something i definitely cant do. For Sandy: In australia it is winter right now. To the people who spoke about teenage girls being a trial. You are so right!!! I love her dearly but she has been a trial from the day she was born. and i dont get to send her away to college next year as we have a different system in AUstralia. If you live in a major city, you dont need to leave home to attend university. You only do that if you are from the country. Also our universities are not easy to get into. To : I also want to take up art classes. I believe it would be good therapy. Its good to hear that you could only draw stick figures before as i am the same. so there is hope for me!!!! to everyone: I am glad that i can do most things as this makes me feel useful and very happy. I am a perfectionist and prefer to do things my own way. but i make sure that i dont tire myself out. I do things a little at a time. I also am going to take a long vacation as soon as daughter finishes her HSC which are the final year exams. This board has been a Godsend to me.
