Lynette --

" Strenuous exercise " is not neccessary to lose weight. " Long slow "

exercise is great for weight loss and lowering BGs. I am 5'8 and was

205 when diagnosed (same as you husband). I lost 30 pounds in 3

months via a sensible diet and long walks (30 minutes at minium, 45-

60 minutes is better). You need about 30 minutes of exercise to burn

off your blood glucose, after that point your body starts converting

fat to energy. " Long Slow " exercise and the resulting weight loss may

do wonders for his BP as well.

Welcome to the group . You will find lots of support here.

It is interesting that you had Lyme's disease before fibromyalgia. It makes

one think about the many causes and facets of this mystery illness.

Welcome,

Debra V.

I was doing OK until 4/4/04 when I was out checking an area for a

Pathfinder (scout type group for my church) outing. The next day I

discovered I had a tick on me and removed it. 3 days later I came down

sick with chills and cramps that are like stabs. Fatigue, muscle and

joint pain have ruled my life since. I used to hike miles with out

giving it a second thought but now I think about it before going 50

yards. Standing too long will give me spasms in my legs and knees.

That June I tested positive for Lyme. I discovered that not all labs

are equal when it comes to testing for lyme. This summer I went to my

lyme doctor and he probed the Fibromyalgia points and I reacted to 13

of them. Right now is the lower pain part of the pain cycle for me.

I am joining this group to see what works for other people with

similar symptoms.

Hi ,

Welcome to the group.

I'm sorry you have Lyme disease and I do know about the difference in labs

that do the testing. My daughter had Lyme disease when she was about 10, but

thankfully a boat load of antibiotics cured her and she didn't end up with the

long term effects.

While my doctors were trying to find out what was wrong with me in the early

90's, one of the many things they tested for was Lyme - I do live very close to

Old Lyme, CT (LOL) - and it took sending the test to a lab at Vanderbilt to get

a good test done.

I was dx with fibromyalgia in 1991 and was dismissed by the Rheum that dx me

and sent back to my primary care doctor for treatment, which consisted of not

much. Lots of people on this site have good info on what to take to manage the

fibro.

I'm sorry you have fibro, but am glad you joined this site. It is a good one.
