I went through seven years of severe insomnia between 1996 and 2004, and it's pretty dicey now. I tried pretty much everything. The cause of mine was probably different than yours; it stemmed from a traumatic event in 1996. But I've had insomnia since I was a kid. You might do some research on tips for sleep. I don't know specific sites but you could possibly start with www.nih.gov or do a search for tips. Have you had a sleep study done? If not, can your doc refer you to a sleep doc or write a prescription for a study? If you have something going on like sleep apnea or restless legs a study may pick it up. If it's sleep apnea, you can get a CPAP machine that's adjusted to your needs. Sleep meds are, IMGLO, a double-edged sword, and I haven't had much success with them. A number of years ago I tried Ambien, which really worked - during the day. :-/ I recently did a trial of Lunesta but found myself in the same pattern of being awake after a few hours. YMMdefinitelyV. One thing - if you can allow yourself more time to sleep, it may offset the time that you spend awake. In other words, 8 hours spread over 10 may work better than 8 hours spread over 7.5 hours. Years ago, during some of my worst insomnia times, I learned some tricks to help. One is that I don't look at the clock when I wake up. In fact, the clock is facing away from me. That way, I can pretend that I have hours and hours left to sleep, even if it's 6 am. Another is that if I get up to go to the bathroom, I don't turn lights on and try to stay sleepy - I try to not wake up thoroughly. If I can't sleep for a period of time, I stay where I'm supposed to be - in bed. I don't get up and do other things. It can be boring but that's ok - it's easier to fall back to sleep when you're bored than when you're up cleaning cupboards. ;D I also sometimes pretend that I'm asleep: I slow my breathing so it's like you breathe when you're asleep (yoga helps with learning about breathing, btw). Above all, try to not get anxious about not sleeping when you wake up: that will *really* prevent you from going back to sleep. Another thing: get the TV out of your bedroom. Use your bedroom only for sleep and - um - recreational activities. ;D It's likely that a mug of warm milk won't do the trick, and I remember wanting to *throw* said mug of warm milk at people when they suggested it. But there are things you can work on. There may not be an easy remedy, but there are lots of things you can work on. Z
Guest guest
For the most part, yes. A good 6-7 hrs a night. But on really bad pain days, I wake up every couple hours but fall back asleep. I take Seroquel 100mg, Lexapro and Nortriptiline at night. maybe ask your doc for something to help you sleep all night.? best of luck, wrote: > > Hi all- my name is Kym. Guest guest
Sometimes if I drink a cup of Chamomile tea it will help relax me a little and I can drift off sooner. It doesn’t always help but those times that it does I am grateful for. ~~~~~ _____ From: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group [mailto:Fibromyalgia_Support_Group ] On Behalf Of Zimmy Sent: Friday, November 16, 2007 9:28 AM To: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Subject: Re: sleep deprived > Hi all- my name is Kym.
