Guest guest
good to hear others are sometimes slower. I was worring myself I lost 30 the first month and this 2nd month about 6. I have to admit I have a hard time getting all the fluids in. I can eat almost anything without problems. I still eat about 1/2 cup at a time. And the best part is I am not craving things or hungry. Guest guest
Protein is a big part of it like you say Shauna. I got my protein up yesterday and this morning when I stepped on the scales my weight was down! :-) 380/348/160 Shauna Thalman wrote: > I started out losing 30 lbs in my first two weeks and then stopped for a month. By my second month I started losing again, I went into my 3rd month I think only weighing like 40+ lbs as well. When I went and seen my doctor, he asked me, " are you eating anything you shouldn't " Because I had only lost a 1/2 lb since my last visit, yet I had not been eating what I shouldn't. His nurse told me, " What? Did you think it was going to just melt off " , I said YES! I was hoping hahahaha As I became more active and able to take in more protein and water, I started losing on a regular basis. Protein and water is probably 98% of what I eat now. Remember, everyone is different too. Right now you might be slow, but it will catch up. This has to be a lifestyle change... and when your body is not losing, it is resting and preparing to lose again. Also, us women have our womenly's that also add on to the slow weight loss each month. Just keep up the hard work!! It WILL pay off. > > Best Wishes, > > Shauna > >
Guest guest
Don't feel so bad, I'm 1 year out & only lost 70lbs. At 2 months I only lost 20lbs. (much more than 2lbs. a month like before the surgery). Everyone (that hasn't had the surgery) tell me I'm lucky to lose slowly. My stomach skin isn't so stretched out, I have another 60lbs. to go. I was sent to a nutritionist at 9months along because I only lost 53lbs. The nutritionist found out I was only getting 900 calories a day, so my metabolism slowed down alot. She also gave me a nutrition plan that I never got from Kaiser Permanente. Yes, I am walking 6 days a week for 45minutes to 1 hour. I also do weightlifting 3 times a week. In the winter I was doing DDR (step dancing watching tv, I call it). That's one thing for sure this surgery does not fix a slow metabolism. I'm down to 214lbs. from a high of 324lbs (when I first took my wls classes 2/2004) according to my doctor only from surgery weight counts now. > > I am 2 months post op & have only lost 31 pds. Guest guest
, It sounds like you have done everything right. As you said, a slow metabolism just can't be corrected, unfortunately. But you have still done great! Keep it up and you'll be down before you know it. It will just take us a little longer. Pam
Guest guest
Hi , I spoke with my doctor today and he said not to worry about it. He said everyone is different and he assures me it will come off in a year. I also emailed my nutritionist and told her what I was eating to see if she could suggest something different. Guest guest
Why do most people only count the weight lost AFTER surgery? I feel that weight lost is weight lost, I had to lose some before surgery and I feel like that is just as important as the weight after? For people like us, the hardest weight we had to lose was before surgery when we could eat anything we wanted.....Can some folks please give me your opinon on this issue. Guest guest
Thanks . The thing I love most about this surgery is the fact that you HAVE to hang in there. There have been times, when I didn't see the scale budge, that I wanted to say " forget it, I'm pigging out! " . Then I realize that I CAN'T pig out. And I thank God for that change. It will end up saving my life. Pam > > > > I am 2 months post op & have only lost 31 pds. Guest guest
Losing weight before the surgery is hard, after the surgery I am going to have the tools that I need. Right now I feel like I am building a house using a shoe and a butter knife. I can build that house but it is going to take freaking forever. After the surgery I am going to have a nail gun and a saw. I will be able to build the house a lot faster. BTW I have lost 22.4 lbs in 2.5 months. After the surgery I will lose that in a month or quicker I hope. Barb Thayer Why do most people only count the weight lost AFTER surgery?
