I'd guess most of us have had multiple EMGs, I know I have and will probably

continue them every few years to monitor progression, but I go to an ALS

Research Center. They don't bother me TOO much but they are not pleasant!

Don't have sensitive feet as far as heat and I walk barefoot all the

not quite barefoot, I wear heavy socks since I can't keep slippers on.

Hey Ya'll I just went to a chiropractor who is also a OT. He had a new type

of emg that doesn't use needles. Hey Drs, when are ya'll going to come up

with one. NO NEEDLES< NO PAIN!

Bart,

That type of EMG is usually used for Biofeedback therapy. To get a valid

response about the muscle and nerve reaction time, the needles have to be

inserted. Sorry to spoil your day, but that is my understanding of the

situation. I have asked this question several years ago when our Psychology

Department was using Biofeedback at the State Hospital where I work. One of

my Psychology colleagues bought one for private practice work and paid

$699.00 for it. The same thing, now more sophisticated, sells for much less.

I will say that it was not painful at all and was very useful in helping

teach stress management to clients and colleagues. (Yes, I got to try it and

it actually helped me learn to recognize when my muscles were tense. I was

surprised to find that I was tense when I felt relaxed.)
