Group, my sister, Patsy, sent the recipe for the sinus rinse which Ethel

mentioned. All of us are different and Patsy uses everything in the original

recipe. I, however, cannot use the d' Arco. I must have an allergy

there. Like my sister, we both use this rinse daily at least once. I have

never

had a drying out problem and I don't think she has either.

Hi all,

Happy almost Spring. Thank you Patsy for the recipe below. It’s nice to

have.

Back in the late 70s a Dr. gave me a recipe for ‘nasal irrigation’ which I

have used daily since then. It is quick, easy, with readily available

ingredients (salt and water) and works well. I normally do the irrigation

while in the shower. I have not had a sinus infection since I started using

this treatment. Prior to that I had them monthly and had to use

antibiotics. [Another big help was the elimination of ALL dairy products.]

Here is the recipe and procedure that can be used 2-3 times daily:

‘Prepare Saline Solution by using:

½ teaspoon of salt

8 oz warm water

You will need a 2oz rubber ear syringe or baby syringe.

Procedure: With head leaning slightly forward and with mouth open, gently

flush nose with the saline solution, first one side and then the other. Let

the solution run out of the nose and then gently blow nose, keeping the

mouth open.’

I find I can also inhale the solution through the sinuses but mostly I let

it run in and out. I use bottled water which I microwave for about 50

seconds. Towards the end of my shower the temperature is about right for

me. Hope this is of help. El

Hi Patsy,

You are so right. I certainly need to get away from the microwave! It’s

just so darned handy!

I think the plain salt (I actually use sea salt) and water solution is good

if you don’t happen to have the other ingredients on hand and are too ill to

get them; i.e., it’s better then nothing. I also think regular use might be

helpful to prevent infection and just to keep the sinuses clean.

The recipe you provided seems like it would be really great to get rid of an

infection or if the sinuses were in bad shape. Do you use it daily or just

when your sinuses are bad?

I am glad to have both recipes. I’m probably going to go buy some of the

ingredients below (most I do have) just in case I ever need them. I’d

rather have the recipe/information and never have to use it vice not know

about it. Thanks again for sharing it. El

my dr. recommends adding a pinch of goldenseal powder from the

capsule to the water. I use 1/4 teaspoon salt to 8 oz. warm water.

The netti pot works well.

Hi Gang! Geoff here.

FWIW, we've made good use of Extra Strength Oregano Oil from North American Herb

& Spice. It used to be available online from HYO -- now you can find it at

Vitamin Shoppe. (watch for a sale)

1. Mix a few drops in a small amount of filtered water

2. Using a small eye dropper, suck about 1-3ml into tube

3. Lean head back and squeeze contents into nostril

4. KEEP head back, rock slowly left & right to distribute contents

along sinus path

5. When fluid leaves sinus and drains into mouth, spit and blow your

nose

This material has one draw back. It is extremely effective and burns when it

contacts an infected area. The burning sensation does dissipate, but it is

quite unpleasant.

Oil of Oregano is antiseptic, meaning it kills everything.

The 'regular' strength does not burn as much as the Extra Strength.
