Guest guest
Hi all, Just returned from Hospital yesterday. Upper & lower using these 'new' resorbable bone plates. Very swish! All going well now, other than one of the bone plates on my upper is sticking up slightly. Noticed it the night after surgery and was quite freaked out but im assured they will eventually dissolve leaving nothing but my own bones in the new places! First week was rough, wasnt expecting the pain to be so bad. Once my pain was under control by about day 4 i elt better. Was unbanded when i woke - then for 24hrs. One of the surgeons came to visit & banded me pretty tight. The searing pain right upto my eye socket was unbelieveable. I can see why some patients get depressed. I was discharged form military hospital on Weds after a check by my Ortho. he gave be bands that i can take off to eat (very grateful!) My mid line looks good but some tweeking required to get my gnashers together. The surgeon assures me it perfect but its ok for him to say that when he has his hand holding it there - the tears streaming down my face !! Thankfully the Ortho is taking a more slowly slowly approach! Things do look to be coming together & the stitches falling out. Still much numbness, i can feel one side of my chin and most of my cheeks but from nose down still feel like i have a mouth full of cotton wool. The eating is ok and can mananged non chewable stuff, the hunger isnt really an issue & i could do with losing a few pounds anyway. Keeping up nutrients 4 healing is my main reason to eat these days. Dont miss choc or alcohol like i thought i would. My Man was quite taken aback i think. i had 2 weeks to get used to my face so i was a bit shocked he saw lots of difference. First night home was funny, we went to bed and he said he felt like (thats me) was going to come in and catch us any minute! Luckily it was in Jest. Went out yesterday to get my hair cut & went really short! fed up of towel drying hurting my head! wish i had done it pre-op! essentials for hospital:- Tissues (drooling and mopping up drink/food, catching coughed up mucus) vaseline (dry/cracked lips) Zip n squeeze bags (didnt get any in time so improvised with syringe but would make eating easier - which if u cant is quite depressing). L shaped pillow (helps swelling to drain if u sleep sitting up - this pillow made me very comfy) Hand mirror. (practice getting my midline & bit right or at least checking it) You may have your own personal essentials but thes really helped me. Well will post some post op pics soon! Love to all xxxxxxxxxxxx
