Bill, maybe we can add this fact about surgery to the

list welcome message if it's not already in there.

This is something new members need to be aware of. A

welcome message(that you wrote) does go out

automatically to every new subscriber (controlled by

the Yahoo subscription process). Maybe we can review

it this weekend if you have some time.

Hugs,

Pam

Pam,

I did not realize that my message was going out to new members. I am

duplicating it when I send out the old standard? Yes, we should review it as

we decided when we did it originally that it would have to change with time.

Send me the message and I will read it, then I will send you my thoughts on

how to update it. I think you may have made some changes (or maybe I made

some changes). Let's draw some more people in on updating it also. We have

a large experience base out there and need to draw on it.

Take care, Bill

Note, I am in and out with Charlotte in rehab. I expect to be online after 9

PM EDT most nights and around 2 PM for maybe an hour. Sunday, I will

probably not be online long especially in the afternoon.

Hi Tami,

Please know my thoughts and prayers go out to you for your forth-coming

surgery. You'll be just fine, and hopefully better than ever. Who knows this

could be at the source of your other problem, let's hope so. Have a lovely

week-end and hold in there. Be well. Fondly, Ging

Hi :

Thank you, also, for your kind words. I'm still new, but I've been reading all the letters and trying to get everyone's 'story' straight. It is kind of you to think of me when you (and everyone) are going through your own stuff.

Keep me posted and I'll do the same.

never makes me feel good.

Jodi,

So, you get to have your surgery at my lucky hour -- one o'clock on a

Monday!

>> For the clear liquids I am having strained bone broth,

diluted pineapple juice and apple juice jello. I am doing the Miralax

prep as it was ok for me during my colonoscopy. Not really sure how to

adjust prep time since I am not morning surgery. The surgeon said I can

drink clear liquids until 6am Monday. <<

That's pretty good -- I had to stop drinking at midnight! Just a little

water at 6a to take some necessary meds!

>> I was told since they are not sure how long the surgery will

take they scheduled me " for the longest block " as the surgeon

will do short procedures in the morning and I am after that. <<

Same thing I had!

>> I hope I am one of those people that doesn't need much pain

meds. <<

I had a user controlled morphine drip which they took away from me after

about 24 hours because I was using so little of it. Remember, though,

that Elaine said that pain is pain, and you won't heal well if you are in

pain. Therefore, take the meds you need them as you need them.

>> I am also having an acupuncturist come to the hospital and while

I am at home post op. I hope this will also mitigate the pain and promote

healing. <<

Wonderful! My Dr. Kim really, really helped me a whole bunch.

>> I am definitely scared. I don't have the greatest track record

when it comes to Western Medicine. <<

Anyone who isn't concerned about a surgery this complex and serious would

make me worry. Keep in mind, though, that where Western Medicine shines

is in these types of procedures. What they haven't a clue about is how to

keep you from getting to this condition in the first place, or how to

help you heal afterwards, and keep from getting back there! You, however,

know the trick of THAT, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.

I was terrified beyond belief, Jodi. I kept reading the " Front

Door " book over and over and over. Right up to when they took me

into the operating room. Know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers

tomorrow and Monday -- and that I'll throttle that brother of yours if he

doesn't let us know as soon as possible after your surgery how it

went!

>> I felt so disempowered and discouraged. It brought me back

to the days pre-SCD where I felt like a victim and betrayed by the

medical establishment. I hate coming from that place. It was a bad blast

from the past. <<

But you are now in your SCD days... and you are not alone. This is one

more step on your healing journey -- and it will be a step forward, not

backwards, even if you feel as if it's about 15 steps backwards! It'll

take a few weeks of healing before you can begin creeping forward

again.

We will all be praying for you, in whatever belief system each of us

professes.

HUGS, Lady.... be well! And don't forget to take your Towel!

Jodi, Lots of good thoughts, prayers, vibes being sent in your

direction daily.

Don't let unenlightened members of the medical profession get you

down, particularly

when you need positive psychic energy to strengthen your current

balance.

I'm sending a tongue-tying curse in his direction.

Hi Jodi! Well that is definitely a bummer that you have to fast longer! I'm sure you'll do great though. And maybe you will just sleep right up until you have to go to the hospital! You could always get a really good book or a movie and stay up while you CAN drink stuff, then sleep when you have to fast. I know that a good book always helps take my mind off of things! Just remember that you have TONS of people praying for you, so everything HAS to go well =) Everything always has a way of working out in the end, and even if you can't see the end yet, you can always figure out the next step to take. And that's all this surgery is: the next step. And just know that it's the right step for you, and will get you that much closer to being healed! As far as the doctor goes, it sounds like he's just a big fat stick-in-the-mud! You don't want to listen to pessimists like him. Everything's going to go great! My prayers will be with you!AlyssaHi Everyone,So I got my surgery hour- it's a bit of a bummer as it is at 1pm so that means I have to fast longer which never makes me feel good. They did not tell me the hour I need to be in the hospital though- need to call Monday morning. For the clear liquids I am having strained bone broth, diluted pineapple juice and apple juice jello. The surgeon said I can drink clear liquids until 6am Monday.I was told since they are not sure how long the surgery will take they scheduled me "for the longest block" as the surgeon will do short procedures in the morning and I am after that.I have opted to go with the Epidural Catheter for the first 2-3 days of surgery. They deliver the pain meds through the spine (Epidural Catheter) and apparently it is a lot more efficient and they need to use a lot less narcotics than IV. Also, it has far less nausea as a side effect (I suffer from AWFUL nausea from IV pain meds that is one of the reasons I met the pain specialist on Friday as I believe in the past it was hard for me to get out of the hospital due to the nausea) I was also concerned with post op pain killers due to Tylenol making me sick- and usually they give Percocet or Percodan. But they will give me Dilaudid if need be. I hope I am one of those people that doesn't need much pain meds. My husband thinks that I have a good threshold since going through so many bowel obstructions with recent ones being on LDN and not really getting anything besides an NSAID shot or NSAID IV which as we know as IBD'ers does wonders for the gut <vbg>I am also having an acupuncturist come to the hospital and while I am at home post op. I hope this will also mitigate the pain and promote healing.I am definitely scared. I don't have the greatest track record when it comes to Western Medicine. All my docs have been wonderful except my last appt on Friday with a pain specialist that was a crass a$$hole. He literally told me that Crohn's pain -never- goes away and it is a hard disease and I will be on pain meds a long time. He just made me feel "why should I do this surgery? Why should I go through this? if nothing will help" My brother was with me and we both felt the rug being swept from underneath us. My brother spoke up for me. But needless to say the stress from that appointment caused me anal bleeding when I came home. I felt so disempowered and discouraged. It brought me back to the days pre-SCD where I felt like a victim and betrayed by the medical establishment. I hate coming from that place. It was a bad blast from the past. All vibes and prayers welcomed..Thank you all for your help and support..I bless this diet, Elaine G, Dr Haas and countless long term SCD'ers for helping me through this process regaining control and getting my life back from this awful disease.I have been house-bound and sick for so many years it is really hard to see beyond this and getting my life back. I hope as Elaine says that this surgery will give me a fresh page, a fresh start.. Healing from all of this debilitating scar tissue. Lord knows I have tried to avoid this path but perhaps some of us are too far gone.. I wish I would of found this diet sooner. I try to find the meaning why all of this is happening to me.. It's hard to know why...Hope to have some good updates soon..Jodi
