Oh can I relate to you and how you feel, I was in that same boat for a

long time and it took reading the posts and finally getting so sick of the way I

felt for me to get it back into my head. You are so right about it really having

to be in your head and I hope it will click for you like it did for me. Al it

took was a simple comment from Tory " When I slip I go forward because if I go

backwards its like I've quit. " Well it might not be the exact words....anyway

that is all it took for me because it was like I had quit and wouldn't admit it.

I have been OP for a week and even started exercising again. I feel so much

better already. You can do it, I know you can !!!! keep reading the post and

also parcipate a litle it reall helps.

Hi Everyone!! I hope everyone is doing well. I have not posted in some time

but I have been reading everyone else's posts. I have not really been with it

the past few weeks, it is not clicking right now. I know what I have to do,

there is just something in my head that is not allowing me to do it. I wake up

every morning with great intentions, have my day planned and do fine while I am

at work, then I get home and all hell breaks loose. I just wanted to vent for a

minute. Thanks for listening.

Yes, you did Jane Anne, and I want to tell everybody that we did have

the consultation this morning, and it was not good new the tumor is

" invasive cancer " , and she went on to tell her what option's she had to

combat it. With out going into detail I will tell you what my MOM has

decided and that is to have the tumor removed, and go on medication. No

chemo or anything like that. That's what we all hoped she would do. It

is so scary to hear that " 'C " word, especially when it's your 87 year

mother. I wish I could write to you all individually and thank you for

your prayer's and support, but I just don't have the energy. I sure

hope you understand. I will keep you all posted, thank you all an God

Bless each and every one of you.

Hi Rita,

Again I am sorry about your Mom. What does invasive cancer mean? That was

probably a good decision on your moms part to not do chemo. Chemo is a very hard

procedure to go through. Again prayers are with you both.

Tell your mom we all care and wish her well. Sandy

Ricky is a four year two month old male with bilateral profound hearing

loss. His hearing loss is believed to be congenital in nature and

progressively

worsened. Aside from Ricky’s hearing loss there were no other

complications or health concerns at birth. Ricky received a multi-channel

cochlear

implant in his right ear on October 28, 2004, from the Department of

Otolaryngology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC

Ricky is currently being educated with a total communication approach in

which spoken English and signs are used

Hello,

In my opinion, 40 minutes a week isn't enough speech if he is only jabbering.

My daughter started out with 60 minutes a week and it was uped to 70 minutes a

week last year. We also made sure that this time was individual speech, no

groups. In addition we also see a speech therapist outside of school for 1 hour

a week. My daughter's loss in a moderate/severe loss. Is he in any therapy to

help him learn to hear with his implant? This would be aural habilitation.

Is the special ed teacher deaf, or is it a teacher trained to work with

deaf/hoh kids. If he is normal in everyother way with no delays, then he

wouldn't need a special ed teacher. He needs someone who knows how to teach a

child who is deaf/hoh, known as a teacher of the deaf (TOD) or a hearing

intinerent (HI). They have gone through training to learn just how to work with

these children. Is he in a classroom for deaf/hoh children? Then he probably

has a TOD. If he's not, it there one in a district near you that he could

attend.

If you live in an urban setting you usually have more choices, but if you're

in a rural setting, you may need to be more creative. Is there a district near

you that may have some of the services your grandson needs and could they work

out an agreement? Many districts will tell you that they don't have the

resources, and although that may be true, they still need to provide them to him

if they are in his IEP. If you do not agree with what the IEP says, you do not

have to sign it. Also, if you see that things are not working out, you can call

an IEP meeting at any time. Then the district has to schedule a new meeting

within a certain number of days (I forget exactly how many).

This is a website that has a pop-up IEP. It gives you the usual line that the

school personel will say to you and it shows you some responses and also the law

that supports it.

If there is anything that you need help with, just let us know. I think it's

great that you are helping your grandson and daughter with this.

Im a new member.Im looking for info on speech therapy and the appropriate

amount. My grandson is getting 20 min twice a week. He seems to be hearing...but

doesn't speak...just jabbering. My daughter and I feel he needs more.

Have an IEP friday. He has a deaf special ed teacher. IEP are confusing and all

different. Trying to be an informed grandparent and assist my 21 year old

daughter with decisions

Were not sure if a Deaf especial ed teacher is the right choice. Ricky was

implanted in Oct of 2004 and activated in Nov.

He is restless...gets frustrated sometimes...but is an amazingly, wonderfull

happy child.

Of course we have heard that school doesn't have resources for more therapy.
