Naffy, I have to ask you again. What did you eat tonight? If your symptoms subsided during the day, only to flare up again tonight, that points to something either in your environment or that you ingested only tonight. It took me nearly 6 months of hives before I finally pinpointed the Yellow 5 as my cause, because it's in unrelated food items (pickles, cheese chex mix, and orange sherbet are hardly the same food group). I certainly don't wish 6 months of that on you! I used to love having a snack of cheese Chex Mix after dinner with TV. Guess what gives it the yellow tint? Your hives might be caused by something else, but you're the only that can figure it out. Some people react strongly to Red 40, and then there's preservatives like BHA, BHT, TBHQ, etc. Taking more HC will mask the symptom, but you REALLY need to figure out the cause. Guest guest
Rice. That's all I had. And at noon rice with chicken. No sauces or gravies or anything. No juices or sodas...just water. I just found a forum for hives sufferers and it has thrown me for a loop. This past year has been hard enough trying to figure out all of this thyroid and adrenal stuff, and now to have this happen.....well....I'm sorry to be a drag. Guest guest
<<<< Taking more HC will mask the symptom, > but > > you REALLY need to figure out the cause>>> I was thinking maybe low cortisol was the cause. on STTM has said that cortisol and histamine are antagonists. When one is low the other is high. On the other hand, I did a search on hives at the STTM site and some mods say hives are adrenal while others say they are hypo. Fun stuff, eh? Not even season salt? Looks like your case will be even harder to crack than mine. I'm so sorry Naffy . . . what can I say except that I can feel your pain. Like you said, I've had surgery too, and the ongoing hives was WAY worse than surgery recovery. Barb
Guest guest
Uh, oh. Just in case there is any small possibility you could be reacting to iodine, you should know that some rices do contain quite a bit of iodine. Chicken also can be high iodine (but not all is) and turkey is definitely high iodine. Do you have Hashi's by any chance? After my first hives, lasting 3 weeks, and long years after finding out the precipitating allergen for me was iodine, I found out that the elimination diet of rice and turkey my doctor put me on probably perpetuated the attack. (Luckily I didn't stick with that diet very well, and actually stopped it before I was supposed to). He did diagnose the cause as iodine, later proven all too correct, but he obviously did not know that rice can be, and turkey certainly is, high iodine. If it wasn't so painful even in memory, I'd have to laugh at the irony of it. sol nafoel wrote: > Rice. That's all I had. And at noon rice with chicken. Guest guest
I've tested negative for hashi's but I know that I could still have it. My temps yesterday and today were a perfect 98.6. Ironic no? You said your first outbreak lasted 3 weeks? Then, were you still ingesting your allergens all that time....or do oubreaks from an initial exposure last several weeks? Thanks Naffy > > Rice. That's all I had. And at noon rice with chicken. >

Guest guest
>>I just spoke with a friend who tells me she had this years ago, and was on antihistamines for 4 months with no releif. She switched dr's and the second one had her take cortisone (I beleive those 5 day tapering doses) and it went away never to return. Could I try this with HC? Take megadoses for a few days and then taper? What would be the down side....assuming the up side would be no more hell?<< You could try this with HC. The down side is these tapers really weaken the adrenals even more than they were to begin wiht. And if the adreanals are in really weakened state it may be the end of them, and they just decide to go to sleep permanently. BUT on the other hand oy can't continue like this either. I doi nto know the amounts to adivise you to take for this. Only that they generally use what I consider to be VERY high doses. Usually they do it with Pred also. You could ask youir doctor abotu this. But plan on tapering off MUCH slpwer than they tell you. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Not sur eit wouls last 3 weeks, but I think it could with out another exposure. Ask your doctor about a Pred taper to clear this up. I can he;p you wiht what to do afterwards. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
I would take it in place of the HC, then as you taper down you can add the HC back in. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://www.seewell4less.com/Valspage.htm Medical Alert Bracelets
Guest guest
I called and they want me to go in for a shot (?) and then take the pred. He told me not to take my HC today but I already had (10 mg). Val I sure hope you're around this weekend....I feel like you're going to have to do some major hand holding. LOL Well at least I'm finally doing something about this...I sat around for 4 days and should have gone to the dr on day one. Thank you so much....am off to the dr. now. Will post later. Guest guest
That's good to hear! I could use a good day. I'm just worrieed about the weaning, Do I take my Cytomel as normal? Could there be a dump? I am on 112.5 t3 and 30 mg HC. Ironically in these past 3 days of feeling like s___t, my temps have been a perfect 98.6. Hope things don't get all screwed up with the pred now. Ok...am off...appt is for 10. Bye, Naffy > > You will probably feel the best oyu have in your life!
