I am a big fan of activated charcoal but allergies and skin breakouts can

have a lot of causes. Sometimes it is just the body detoxifying and time is

all that is needed and sometimes it is exposure to something that day.

I get breakouts quite often and mostly ignore them unless really bad because

I know until I get my body more stable they will keep happening.

About 10 years ago is when I started to really get them...had to stop

wearing earrings and any metals touching my skin and switch to

environmentally friendly laundry soaps, body soaps, lotions, shampoos, etc.

Re: Allergic Reactions

Sorry to hear you are so uncomfortable.

I wonder if taking Charcoal tablets or bentonite would help to absorb

the toxins causing the reaction. Just a thought. Anyone know if

that would help?

Are they hives? I saved my life one time by taking high doses of powdered

vitamin C ( a good brand), several grams. Gave me the runs but got the

allergens out of my system. The hives last for over 7 days but after the

first three they didn't itch anymore.

Sol thank you! My husband came home a little while ago and took one

look at me and called our doctor!!!It's all over my face now....not

a pretty sight. Dr. told me to DOUBLE the chlorotrimeton (I was

only on 4 mg) and to add Zyrtec...so basically what you were saying

about mixing two different types of meds.

This aft. I took a warm baking soda bath and it made it WORSE!!! Now

my doc says NO HEAT...only cold showers. Plus he sent me a laxative

to empty my bowels since the allergens are there now. ugh.

You said heat would make histamines? I thought we were anti them.

Oh well, anyway, I am flying high now with so many pills in me.

This better be gone by tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help today...to everyone. I'm such a baby...I

know.

Val am curious, what you think an appropriate stress dose would be for

an all-0ver-the-body break out of hives?? Would stress dosing be

better than taking antihistamines? I/m on 30 mg hc right now.

Thanks,

Naffy

20 mg hc on top of my normal 30 MG per day? Or 20 mg more at each

dose? Sorry to be a twit....but I'm going crazy here...I now have

hives in between my fingers and toes! This really sucks Val. And I

cannot figure out why this would happen at this point in my

treatment...when I've never in my life had this before. My daughter

even told me today, that she thought I was worse than I was this time

last year....this time last year meaning on NO T3 OR hc MEDS.

UGH..today she's right!

This is why I was thinking cream to use directly on it, but I would not go over

20MG on it,.

Is it the kind with nylon? I found out I was allergic to nylon when I

had a small cyst removed, and the wound was stitched with nylon sutures.

Instead of healing, within a few days it got red and puffed up and the

stitches were tearing through the swollen skin. Went to the doctor, who

said " it isn't healed " and refused to take out the stitches. When my

husband got home from work, I had him take them out, and it then healed

right up with no further problems.

No Val...no new clothes....nor anything different really, except I

drank an orange soda, which I haven't had in years...since I was a

kid.LOL No, this is something very strange for me....like I've said

in the other posts this morning...I have NEVER had a skin reaction

to anything in my life. Once when starting Armour I did itch but it

went away on its own within a few hours, and their were no welts.

This is gross...and now spreading to my neck and lower scalp area.

I'm looking like a freak! And the itching!!! OMG the itching!!

Funny you should mention elastic, because the first breakout on

Christmas evening was right along the panty line.

Am waiting for my next chlorotrimtron and then will be spreading

some HC on the worst areas. Do you think its okay to take the 20 mg

now...at night?? Subtracting of course what i put on in cream.

Geez...what a day!

Thanks,

IF the cream and 4 hour dosing of Chlorpheniramine don't fix it,

consider adding 150 mg Zantac am and pm.

Per the Postgraduate Medicine link I sent you earlier.

Sometimes it takes both H1 and H2 histamine blockers to get a good

response.

If nothing else, sometimes putting an ice pack on the worst areas helps.

Or a long cold shower. NO heat (for me) though some people have said

that taking a long very hot shower can cause more histamine release in

the skin, and thus speed up the course of the reaction. But it won't be

comfortable!!! ly I never had the guts to try it.

When I had huge hives all over my face, at the doctor I got seen

immediately. They did NOT want me sitting in the waiting room scaring

the other patients!

Nope---Zyrtec is another H1 blocker, you need to add something like

Zantac(Ranitidine) or Cimetidine, which are H2 blockers. These H2

blockers are not found in the antihistamine section, they are in the

stomach irritation/ulcer section.

Here is the link again in case you can't find it

http://www.postgradmed.com/issues/2001/02_01/krishnaswamy.htm

PLEASE read it or have your husband read it for you.

Heat doesn't make histamine, the skin cells do that--but heat causes

more histamine release, which increases the reaction. Some say a lot of

heat speeds up the histamine release and helps exhaust the histamine in

the skin cells. But it also worsens the reaction, so can be extremely

uncomfortable to actually painful in the short term.

If you can start at the first signs of a histamine skin reaction, and

keep the cells exhausted of histamine, they can't build up a good head

of steam so to speak to really get a huge reaction going. Nevertheless,

causing cells to release histamine makes for discomfort. I've stopped

attacks cold by using diluted DMSO to cause histamine release in baby

steps several times a day, and to keep the cells from building up a lot

of histamine.

I don't think you are a baby. No one who has not experienced this can

truly know how bad it can be.

Bentonite is a possibility. And applying bentonite in a paste to the

affected areas might possibly help, but I've never tried it. At some

point when a reaction of this type gets bad enough anything you put on

the skin will cause more pain, just because it has become unbearably

sensitive.

Any idea what this comes out to be in mgs?

btw, sodium ascorbate is what Linus ing recommended. My favorite

recipe is for sodium ascorbate nose drops for when you have cold!

Ok I tried this tonight. Of course, I don't have the right

ingredients on hand...best I could find was Solagar 1000mg timed

release capsules....but I opened them up and poured into the

teaspoon, then mixed in the baking soda and then water. I would

like to find another good source of vitamin c, but in the meantime,

I guess this way won't hurt me.

I have also been reading tonight about the importance of

alkalinizing the body to avoid desease/allergies etc. This form of

supplementing Vit C helps to do that.

I have learned so much in 24 hrs!!

Well I did great today,no breakouts and slight itching, but

unfortunately now I'm breaking out again. It's got me very down.

Tonight I have it on my calves/thighs/private parts

ugh/underarms/forearms....not too much on the trunk like last night.

My dr. wants to switch me to Atarax tonight....but I just took my

Zyrtec and Chloro-T, so I don't think I should do that now.

Thanks for the link to the Vit C....I'm off to take mine now. Hope

it helps.

It would be however many mgs are in a tsp of your ascorbic acid powder.

Hi Sol,

This is from page 19 of HOW TO LIVE LONGER AND FEEL BETTER by Linus

ing:

....dissolve 3.1g of sodium ascorbate in 100 ml of water....use 20 drops

of this solution into each nostril with an eye dropper....in this way a

local concentration of ascorbate a thousand times the value produced by

oral administration can be reached. "
