Mike,

I eat popcorn now but I am 2.5 yrs post op. Early in my recovery,

popcorn bothered me so much, that at one point it put me into the

hospital due to an obstruction. I caution you on it. Now that I am

this far out, I can eat a few cups worth than I am done or I get a

stomach ache. It is one of those complex carbs that is converted to

sugar so moderation is the answer it eating it...as with everything.

Almonds and other nuts are great but high in fats and calories and

tho, they have some of the amino acids required for our bodies to

make protein from them, I again say that moderation is the answer.

The only true things you can eat and eat and eat on, are fresh cut

vegetables. I find this far out that my diet has many little

splurges....you know the salty foods that once and awhile I just

want. But other then that it is mostly meat, dairy, fresh fruits in

moderation and vegetables.

I have now maintained my ideal weight for nearly 2 years and for the

most part my labs have been great (recently my potassium was low but

I take a diuretic because my legs still swell up and it causes our

bodies to excrete extra potassium). You can eat popcorn when you are

far past your surgery..just remember...too much and its gonna catch

up with you.

Hugs,

Kat

Hmm. Cashews are FULL of fat. They also happen to be heavenly.

Coincidence? I think not! The almonds and walnuts I had were not

salted. They still tasted good. I had to chew a long time which was

fulfilling. I used to eat soynuts from www.soynuts.com before while I

tried to lose weight before surgery. They're high in protein and not

too bad in fat. The reason I don't buy them, nuts, or sunflower seeds

in any large quantity is because I'm certain I would end up grazing.

I'm limited to eating 20-30 minutes for each meal/snack. If I was

stupid and put a good sized bag of nuts on my desk at work I might

eat them slowly and deliberately but I'd be doing it for a good hour

to an hour and half. Popcorn can be grazed on too. Just be careful

with them.

Salt is in so much that I eat. I usually have a Healthy Choice

(chicken, turkey or fish) for lunch. They've got pretty good protein,

okay calories and have some vegis. But they're high in sodium, well

pretty high. Soups are REALLY bad. Most packaged foods are high with

salt. I no longer salt my vegetables for dinner including corn on the

cob. Salt/sodium isn't a huge concern of mine it's just that if I can

sort of ignore extra salt I do. It's only when I think about it that

I want to salt food (uh I guess that's sort of obvious though).

Good luck
