Guest guest
, Congrats on your approval! My husband was the same way. He's very unexpressionable (is that a word?) He also told me " you'll do what you want anyway " . (um....yaaaa!) It is my body and no one can tell me I can or can't have the surgery (except my insurance company, which, thank God they approved and I have my surgery next Friday the 10th!) Anyway, he looks at pictures of women now who have had the surgery and can't believe they are the same women. He will tell me now " you'll probably be this thin " and it's a picture of a really beautiful, thin woman. It makes me feel good that he's kind of getting used to the fact that I will be thin, but I don't want him to be totally focused on my body either after I lose the weight (if you know what I mean). Right now I feel so fat and unattractive, and never want " it " , but I hope that changes after surgery. He says he's just afraid I may not live through it, and I tell him that MOST women can cook, so I'm replaceable. At least I have a sense of humor about it. I don't make desserts now for the family, as my kids all have a weight problem (my husband doesn't, nor does my 17 year old daughter), but my other two, 14 year old girl and 10 year old son have weight problems, and it will get worse. I can see my 14 year old having this done in a few years because she is so heavy now. After my surgery I will force her to eat healthy since I won't be able to eat like this anymore. I'll be making only enough food for the 4 people, and then if she is hungry she can eat fruit or veggies. I refuse to have junk food or sweets in the house after this. I don't know how it will all go over, but I guess if I get rid of it all there isn't much anyone can say about it. Sorry if I went off on a tangent. Guest guest
, that is wonderful! I know, those insurance people are unbelievable. I had to call mine twice a week just to get them to review my request. I got the supervisors direct phone# and stayed on her about it. They don't care. They're at work thinking about what they have to do when they get out of work, kids, money, coffee break, whatever! LOL Just a little advice, I wouldn't stock up on protein shakes just yet tho. I myself (and I've heard from others) have had a taste change since the surgery. Funny some of the things I thought tasted good before don't taste so good now. Just my two cents. Guest guest
Dear T. Congratulations on your approval. I'm very happy for you! I know you have a lot on your mind right now but make a visit to Mom's website and order several of her protein samples. My favorites are Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Stack and ProScore 100, in chocolate of course. Vitalady.com - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals, and Safe Snacks! Do this early and you can find a protein powder you like before buying a large canister that might not be taste-bud friendly. Load, load, load on your protein (pre-op) and I can almost guarantee that you'll feel better (post-op). Take good care and God bless your weight loss journey! Love, Trace in Va. Guest guest
Theresa, I like the way that you put this post. Tony didn't seemed too interested in the beginning either. But I think now that it's done, he has become more involved in it. The facts are the facts... it is my fight, so why should he be penalized? He can eat whatever he wants to since he's not the one with the major weight problem... Ok, he could stand to lose about 30lbs... but he's a big boy, he can do it when he's ready to. I love him and want him to be happy too. But the kicker of your post that got me was the part where you said men are insecure. (we all are at some point! LOL) I reassured him that I will always love him because he has given me love and respect and has been there for me as an obese person. And if someone can make you feel the love you need based on the inside, why would you want to risk losing that and finding a shallow partner that may dump you if you gain 10 lbs or change the color of your hair? LOL Our fellas need reassurance and love just like we do. So grab your partner and hug them and love them and tell them that you will remember their support and love once you reach goal. I think they need to hear that. Men get scared too. Sometimes they are just too macho to say anything about it. Just another 2 cents.... Guest guest
There is a girl in one of my support groups and she has a daughter, who is a fairly big little girl. We had a pot luck one time and I watched this little girl put more food away then I did when I was still of larger size. I couldn't believe that... SO I do agree with not having it in the house if one has children that have weight problems, but I don't believe in depriving them for I remember when my mom tried that, as soon as I got my allowance guess what I bought, I bought cookies, donuts, candy bars and anything else I could put my hands on for I wasn't allowed to have it and I felt deprived. Has anyone seen that show coming on Lifetime, I wish i could remember the name I'll look for it in a min and report back, its about a mother w/2 daughters and one is larger than the other and she bribes them the first one who loses 10 lbs gets a bathing suit and well what happens if i watched the previews right the larger one becomes anorexic (sp?) . *Nothing Tastes As Good As Thinness Feels* -- Re: I'VE BEEN APPROVED!!!!!!!! , Congrats on your approval! Guest guest
Hey , I had my surgery last April 9th. I was so scared I couldnt talk to my husband about it. I have other heath concerns and the surgery was a step to hekp save my life. All I told my husband was ....I was dying and he and the doctors know it...so if I died on the table I at least died trying to change my life. Well of course I made it. And both hubby and I have changed our lifestyle and he has lost 80lbs. He has made a conscious decision to change his eating habits in order to support me and in the meantime has benefited healthwise and of course looks better. Our children are grown and gone so its just the two of us here. So its easy to keep all the sugary and white stuff out of the house. Anyway....things will come around with your hubby. THere are a lot of hubbies out there that had a cavalier attitude in the beginning but it changed to admiration. My hubby is great. Ask . He makes sure I get all my protein and vitamins. He is my hero for hanging in there with me through all my health problems and surgeries. He is a great man. Good luck to you on your surgery. I know you will do great. Your hubby will too.
