Sandy,

I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your boss, so I'm afraid to offer you advice on how to handle work...but just know that if you don't feel you can do this with your boss, please don't. Personally I have a very close relationship with my boss, he is almost somewhat of a father figure to me as well as an excellent mentor. I have been with the company since October of 2001 - not very long. I had left knee surgery in 2002 and right knee surgery in 2003. My boss has supported me through this and I worked from home while recovering from the surgeries. However, the right surgery has gone on to become RSD - I never recovered. I now work at home most of the time, only go to the office 2 days a week for about 3-4 hours as that is all I can handle. I have feared losing my job since the second surgery - it is not a fun feeling, I know. But I have found that concentrating on my work helps to take my mind off of the pain, I would go stir crazy if I could not work. It is hard, especially with my hands hurting so bad, but I try to do the best I can still. I have been completely honest with my boss every step of the way, though I got advice from some people not to tell him what is going on. I felt that if he knew what I was dealing with he would be more understanding of the amount of time I work at home, if I work off hours as I might not feel good in the morning, if I have to nap while I'm home during the day - he puts up with all of this since I get my job done and still do a great job. I don't know what kind of work you do, if it would be possible for you to work from home some, or if you can even approach your boss with this, but I wanted to give you some options that might help you. I know that I work much better from home because my pain level is much less than if I go to the office. I hope this helps.

<hugs> Lori

Sorry you had to sleep in a recliner. Happy that you didn't have much more pain

then laproscopic.

I had open RNY in January and yes I had to sleep on my back. While I was in

the hospital this was easy for me to do because they gave me something to

help me sleep. When I went home 5 days later it was a little more difficult

because I went home with a drainage tube. I bought two long body pillows

and kind of proped my body at an angle. I was so happy a few days later

when my doctor removed that tube so I could get a good nights sleep (I'm a

stomach sleeper)

Hope this helps,

buy yourself a couple long body pillows so you can experiment on how to prop

your body. Are you certian your having open surgery? Just keep on telling

yourself the stapples and drainage tube come out soon..

> My post op pain was not that bad. I walk a LOT and that helped. My

worst back pain started a week or so post procedure. It was low back

pain. I carry all of my weight in my belly. My arms and legs have

always been thinner and are actually now thin. My gut is still big

and I was constantly asked if I was pregnant. When I started the wt

loss, My back would sporadically kill me. Then it made sense. I was

pregnant in reverse for lack of a better term. My back/spine could

not keep up with the rapid wt changes, changes in my posture, and in

reshifting wt. Same thing during pregnancy just you are gaining wt.

The principle is the same. My back still hurts from time to time now

but not like it did at first. The abd incision was never much of a

problem. I had the roux-en-y done lap. I enjoyed the IV PCA pump in

the hospital with some Fentanyl and it was good. I came home on

liquid roxicet. I ended up throwing it away after a few months for

disuse. With the walking I did, the pain was not bad. The pain in

the hospital and the first few days post op in a lap procedure is

from the carbon dioxide gas they use in the procedure. It takes a

bit to rise. If you don't get your laurels and and move to dissipate

the gases in your body, you will have terrible pain in the

chest/shoulders/belly. It's not worth it-walk. I had my gall bladder

(lap cholecystectomy) out a few months ago and it was worse than the

GBP! I have lost 75 pounds and gone from a size 32 to a regular off

the rack 16. I am a happy camper!

Hi this is Pam from Baker, Fla. I walk everyday about 45 minutes to

an hour an a half. I like to get a good sweat going for the calories

an a stress reliever. Plus I like to walk in the afternoon around

5.00 pm or later, to help avoid the snacking I am so use to

doing. Hope everyone

is well, I finally got below the 250 mark. I am drinking 2 shakes

aday now instead of one for breakfast. One in the am, and one about

7.30 or 8.00 p.m. when I am geting ready to retire to my bedroom.

have a great Day evryone an keep losing. PAm

1 hour a day if possible for me. That is also what my program recommends.
