A good discussion, if you drink hot or iced tea, how do you make it?

have, but I did use it to make coffee once, and my sister complained

it tasted weird. Guess it retained some of the tea flavor in the

basket? I drink what I want and make iced tea with the rest, and

drink iced all year round, since I'm in Florida.

My local Agricultural Extension office tells me that this is not a good idea as

bacteria can grow in the tea on the counter. Far better to use boiling hot

water and put the jug straight into the refrigerator, they say.

I fill my gallon jug up with hot water from the tap, put 4-5 tea bags in it

(depending on the kind) and let it steep and cool on the counter. Takes

most of the day.

For hot tea, I boil water in a kettle, and for tea bags, I add the water and

bag to the cup, and if loose tea, I use a great tea pot that a friend sent

me for Christmas. I have a little strainer for over my tea cup.

I add splenda or local raw honey to my tea. I try to have at least one

teaspoon of local raw honey each day. My allergies have become more able to

bear since doing it.

I drink Iced all year round and I am in Oregon =)

I LOVE iced tea. herbal or regular black, green or white tea.

Actually, that's more likely to happen if the tea is sweetened. I know when

I worked food service we had to change the sweet tea barrel dispenser twice

a day to keep it from going off, but the unsweet tended to stay good for the

whole day. Now, when someone didn;t dump the stuff at the end of the

night... yeah, even the unsweet would be cloudy and gross by morning. I've

been told that tea that starts getting the cloudy look after a couple of

days in the fridge should be tossed because it's growing stuff.

Brings to mind an interested thought... if Splenda doesn't burn like sugar

in our bodies, does that mean bacteria can't use it as food? Hmmmmm.....

there is bacteria in everything, especially since I have a shallow well...

I haven't gotten sick yet... though I do have a cast iron tummy... As does

everyone else in the house...

I put water in a large 6 cup apparatus and put it in the

microwave for 10 minutes.

After waiting for a minute, I then put 3-4 tea bags of my choice

in the water and let it sit for an hour or so.

I then pour it into a pitcher and fill rest of the way with tap water.

I then put it in the fridge. I use to leave it out on the cabinet but

I noticed that if I do not drink it all after a day or so then

I had growth in it. So in the fridge it goes now.

I usually drink flavored and/or herbal tea cause just straight tea

has no taste for me.

Oh, I agree! If it is not FRESH, I will not drink it. After tea sits for a

while it is bitter tasting to me. And, if you look at it closely, it already

looks like bacteria forming. For this reason, I do not drink iced tea at fast

food restaurants where the tea sits in those big, metal containers. YUCK! I

will drink iced tea in restaurants. But even there, I have been served rank

tea. I always send it back and ask for a FRESH glass of tea.

For iced tea, we usually drink Tazo. It is the best brand of tea, I think,

personally. It has a lot of flavor. I boil the water in a tea kettle, place a

Tazo tea bag in a two quart pitcher. Pour the boiling water to the 1 quart

level and let it steep for 5 minutes. I then add ice & filtered water to make 2

quarts. Then, I pour the first glass and enjoy! The rest is put into the

refrigerator immediately. I do not make more than 2 quarts at a time, because

of previous paragraph. It has to be FRESH or I won't drink it.

As for hot tea. . .again, most of what we drink are those teas put out by Tazo.

We have quite a large collection.....a whole cabinet full. But, it is consumed

quickly. , my daughter, and I all drink at least 3 cups per day. I

usually boil the water in a tea kettle and pour over tea bag and let it steep

for approximately 3 minutes. will leave the tea bag in the cup while he

is drinking it.
