Guest guest
Hi le Welcome to the group. I'm 59 as well but I was just diagnosed in May of this year. I'm controlling with diet and exercise so far and it's going ok. I've also managed to lose 35 lbs or so and that seems to have helped more than anything. You'll find lots of friendly helpful people here and I'm sure you'll be glad you joined. There are lots of people here who've experience the Dawn effect more than I that can give you lots of good advice and I'll leave that up to them. Hope to talk to you again soon. Guest guest
le I'm 58 and female and was diagnosed only last January 2004 with Type 2. I realize you have had it a lot longer. I take Metformin and it is still working well for me but I guess things can progress and some or many Type 2's, from all I have read, can progress to taking insulin. Perhaps you will need to address this with your doctor. I hope you can find the help you need, soon. It has been going well with me and I have lost about 60 pounds of the 120 I need to lose -- a little too fast, according to my doctors (over 1 pound a week is too fast). If you were overweight were you ever able to lose it to help control your diabetes? Did a fast weight loss hurt you in any way. For one thing, I know it can give gallbladder problems. It can also decrease bone mass in women our age. I don't know too much about the dawn effect either, so will let someone else explain. But just wanted to say stick around, you will learn some things and maybe feel less alone with it all. Luv, Janie > Hi le > > Welcome to the group.
