Even if the boss is a butt as you put it, your husband should be able to qualify of Family and Medical Leave Act even for a day to day basis. My husband does this occasionally. If he still wants to get paid, he has to burn a vacation day or sick day, but having the FMLA paperwork on file, keeps it from becoming a black mark on his attendance record. See if your husband can get the paperwork from the HR department. Then your docs and your son's docs fill out explaining why from time to time, your husband may need to be home for you and your son.
