What does that entail, Matt? Sunny

Voice recognition software

One other thought. GO WIRELESS !!! It is the coolest. We went wireless and I can now carry my laptop anywhere in the clinic and be connected to our server and ISP. Most wireless routers now will keep anyone off the signal if they are not authorized. Not HIPAA enough for you? Then you can program your router to change passwords every so often thereby preventing anyone from hacking into your system (don't ask me how it all works - I just use the stuff).

Simple. You go to Comp USA, Fryes, or some other computer mega-corp and tell them you want to go wireless aka "wi-fi". They will sell you a "router". Routers come in two types of frequencies - B or G. I use B at home and it is fine, but we found that it was not fast enough at work because we are connected to a server at work and do more than surf the internet and get email. It needed to be faster to use our Medisoft files. So we went with the G frequency. The device costs about $100-300. Depending.

The stores will give you all the details. Then you just take it home and follow the directions to hook it up. It is fairly simple. I recommend the brand "Linksys", but others are good also. Linksys's tech support is good at helping you too. You do need one other thing if your computer is not already equipped for wi-fi. You will need a "wireless card" for each computer you wish to use wirelessly. Many new laptops have the card already, but most older ones (esp. desktops) do not (make sure your card is B or G compatible. So the "router" is like the transmitter and the "wireless card" is like the receiver. Another nice feature is the router can act like a gatekeeper and do all your virus protection and firewall from there. So if you do virus protection from your router - every computer accessing your router from your office is automatically virus protected. Hope this helps.

Matt

PS: One more thing...Some routers will also allow computers to be hooked up to it with wires also. So, if you have a desktop and don't need it to be wireless, you can hook the router up to it with wires and then run the other computers wirelessly. This sounds like a lot of info, but once you see the layout/setup - it's pretty easy.

Wireless is great BUT it is NOT secure.

It is a miniature broadcast station and may have a range of over 100 feet.

Our MS consultant lets his neighbor across

the street use his wi-fi without any problems.

Our wi-fi system is to the laptop only and

does NOT carry patient files-- only power point

slides.

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone tell me what the hell is up with the microphone that you plug

into pc for voice rec software. It takes approx 2 mins once plugged in to

cuase

my head and ears to tingle more than most things I have encountered. Is

this the high/low frequencies coming from the laptop and the wire is acting

like

an antennea ? The microphone that I have is fitted with a snapp on ferrite.

This is really anoyying since the software is a good choice on the face of

it for an ES pc user !!

I borrowed the mic from a fellow esser, it had a ferrite already attached,

perhaps I should by some more to snap on say from maplin. I have no way of

measuring RF from the wires or minute emf what meter could tell me this ?
