Guest guest
Thanks, Christy. I have problems with the breakfast thing, too. My night pills make me feel like not eating in the AM, but I have to with my morning pills, LOL. What I find myself doing is waiting awhile after I'm up to eat and take pills. I'm usually up at five so that still gives me quite awhile to work up an appetite. My energy is usually some better in the AM, too, though not great and I'm very stiff and painful. FWIW here's my routine: Get up around five, get Denny's lunch, take care of the dog, turn on the computer, do a quick run through of the house (that means just making the bed, and putting away whatever I left out the night before--usually a couple of misplaced pillows and the dishes from the dishwasher, nothing major) Then rest. Around 730-8 I do my gentle stretching yoga, then rest. Around 830-9 I take pills and eat a little something--sometimes 1/2 a bowl of cereal or sometimes a piece of toast, not much. Then I get on here, LOL. I have more meds at around 2, but that one doesn't need food. Sometimes I eat lunch, sometimes not. Then continue my day. I eat a good dinner, and usually a bedtime snack (well, really a good hour before bed so I don't lay down too soon). Bedtime pills with the snack. That's it. During the day five days of the week I also do regular exercise. Nothing major, believe me, it hurts sooo much. I love ice cream, but I haven't been eating any because it kicks up my IBS and I'm trying to keep that undercontrol for our trip. Once it's kicked up, it may stay that way for months. I'm just now getting it under control again. BTW--if you hate breakfast foods, eat something else--no one says you have to have cereal or eggs in the morning. Denny had a hard time in Holland because they'd have what we'd consider lunch foods (bologna sandwiches, etc) for breakfast, LOL. Kathy Starting the New Year's diet, etc OK, I did my New Year's Morning weigh and measure, and boy am I happy! My weight is 154, so I've lost a total of 19 pounds now. I originally set my goal at 130, but I'm thinking that is a little low if I don't want to look like a prune. It's higher than what I weighed most of my adult life, but I'm not sure where to set my goal. Any suggestions? (and DON'T say 154, LOL, I do need to lose some more weight) I'm 5' 7 1/2" tall. I have also lost a total of 23 1/2". But keep in mind that I measure bust, chest, waist, abdomen, hips, right thigh, right calf, right bicep, and right deltoid. I'm at goal for my bust, and under goal for my thighs, chest and calves. That said, I think I should reset the thigh goal because I'd like to take a little more off there. Only have one more inch to lose off my waist and two more off my hips and 1/4 off my abdomen. Also 1/2 off my bicep and 1/4 off my deltoid. So all-in-all I'd say I'm very happy with how this is going. Very slowly, granted, but it's continuing to move along. Does anyone want to start the weekly or monthly weigh in thing again? Remember no actual pounds, just how much lost or gained? If you do, I'll keep track for everyone. I know that some of our meds make us have trouble losing, but the more we lose the better for our illnesses or at least for the pain. Guest guest
Yeah.... I need to add about 4 feet hehehe Re: Starting the New Year's diet, etc Kathy, I used to work for a doc that said a woman should weigh 100 lbs. for the first 5 ft of height, then add 5 lbs for each inch - that would make your ideal weight 137 1/2 lbs. I found that seems to be a good rule of thumb Also means I need to lose 30 lbs. or grow 6 inches taller! I think I'm stuck at 150, but I'm feeling better than in a long time, so I'm not going to worry about it now. Good luck, Please visit our website at:http://ACES_Autoimmune.tripod.com

Guest guest
Yeah, that's what I meant. I 've seen some women my age who took off weight to the weight they were when they were much younger, and the skin just doesn't go back where it belongs. In fact there is one commercial for bariatric treatment centers up here where the woman's face is an absolute wreck! I've actually noticed a difference with my stretch marks. When I had Kayly I got stretch marks on my hip bones, some at the end of my appendix scar and maybe a few on my butt, but I don't look back there, LOL. For the years that I've been heavier the stretch marks had become smooth, but now that I've lost weight you can run your hand over them and feel the indents. They don't show, thoough, because I don't wear bikinis, LOL Kathy Starting the New Year's diet, etc OK, I did my New Year's Morning weigh and measure, and boy am I happy! Guest guest
How depressing. If you can tell me how to even remain stable in weight on prednisone I'd be amazed. I've just had to go through my clothes and put more than half of them away because it is just so frustrating to go to my wardrobe and not find anything that fits. Good luck with your weight loss. I'm envious. But I accept now that I have to be on prednisone, at least while this Crohns is in flare up mode. When I started on it this time (that was 14 months ago) I was told it would only be for 3 - 6 months! But now I just have to accept it all because worrying about it just makes the flare worse. Guest guest
There's nothing much you can do on prednisone. Most of the low cal crunchies (carrots, etc) are out because of your Crohn's. Guest guest
, maybe that's because the pred dries out your skin. I find I go through heaps and heaps of creams just to compensate for what is happening to my skin now. Coming off the pred probably only exaggerates this? (((Hugs))) Robyn Yahoo! Guest guest
Robyn, Somehow I managed to lose weight while taking pred several years ago. I think my strictures were so bad that my food moved through very slowly & I didn't get hungry. I know I wasn't healthy. Now, I just buy clothes that fit & have no waist, or an elastic waist, & don't worry about my size - unless a doc tells me I HAVE to lose weight ( & that hasn't happened in years). Guest guest
, The doctors know I need to lose weight but I think they just don't mention it because they know it's a losing battle on the pred. I suppose I could start that "2 year old's diet" but I'm not sure how the gut would cope with the carpet fluff and dirt. But I certainly like the sound of all that sugar they seem to be able to sneak into their diet. Guest guest
Yeah, a co-worker has been teasing me about my new ice cream maker. It makes soft serve ice cream. The first recipe I tried ( & it's GOOD, but a bit too soft) uses fat free sweetened condensed milk, fat free Cool Whip, skim milk, & caramel flavor. Jan asked me why I didn't just open a bag of sugar & pour it in my mouth. > > OK, I did my New Year's Morning weigh and measure, and boy am I > happy! > > My weight is 154, so I've lost a total of 19 pounds now. Guest guest
The Remicade helps. We think I'm having some side effects, but not sure how much is Remicade & how much is steroid withdrawal from tapering the pred. It seems to be more steroid withdrawal because it gets worse when I lower the dose of pred - fatigue, leg & foot pain, hot flashes/chills sometimes. I'm not sleeping good either, but that's from mental stress, I'm sure. I'd love to have a night with no bad dreams that wake me up. Sleeping makes me tired lately. > I suppose I just imagine what my skin will look like for the rest of my life if I don't take the time now to apply the cream regularly. Guest guest
Kathy, I'm pleased for you. There's nothing like taking off some weight to make a woman feel good about herself (as long as it isn't over the top). No your e-mail didn't really "depress" me it was just a depressing "thought". Actually I have trouble telling people when I'm really upset or depressed, I usually don't share that until well after the event when I have the "stuff" in some sort of order in my mind. It's not really a good way to handle issues but it's "my" way. So you don't need to apologise about "depressing" me. I'm really quite okay, even perky at present because I'm excited about the new house etc. (((Hugs - although you only need "littler" ones now!)))) I'm at goal for my bust, and under goal for my thighs, chest and calves. Guest guest
, Perhaps when you make your next soft serve ice cream you should try adding a bit of "carpet fluff" next time from the two year old diet for a bit of roughage? Guest guest
LOL--thanks Robyn! How is the house coming along? My son is getting the kit for his log home Jan 16, so this week the contractor will be setting the pins and I think starting the foundation. I know that they are anxious to get out of the mobile home. LOL--it's older than they are. In fact I think it's the same year as the one I lived in for two years when he was first born. Kathy Re: Starting the New Year's diet, etc How depressing. I originally set my goal at 130, but I'm thinking that is a little low if I don't want to look like a prune. Guest guest
I know the feeling well about "not sleeping". I find I have one good night and then several where I hardly sleep at all. If I have a good night then I can just about depend on the fact that I won't sleep at all the next night. What level of pred are you on now? (((Hugs))) Robyn Yahoo! Guest guest
I'm still convinced that there is some link between my drinking heaps of water and a flare up of my Crohn's arthritis. I don't know whether it is a "chicken and the egg" situation where I crave water because my body knows there is a flare up coming or whether the drinking the water causes the flare up. I'm also convinced that there is a link between my cravings for sugar and my arthritis. Do you see any connections, ? Guest guest
I can't even imagine if I were on prednisone--with the FMS and the pain I don't sleep much anyway. The most I usually manage is 5 hours, and that's not good sound sleep. About once every week or two I crash and get about 7 hours--boy does that feel good. Guest guest
I definitely see a link between my craving for sugar and my arthritis, I'm trying my best to cut down. I feel better on lots of water, but I don't have Crohn's. Guest guest
I've discovered Fruit 2 O; it tastes better than plain water, & I can drink more, but I still don't drink enough. I drink decaf tea & try to eat ices & such that really are liquid. > > There's nothing much you can do on prednisone. Most of the low > cal crunchies (carrots, etc) are out because of your Crohn's. Guest guest
11 mgs now, soon it will be 10 mgs (Ihope). The goal is 7.5. I slept better last night, so I won't be surprised if tonight's not a good one. > I know the feeling well about " not sleeping " .
