WOW!! How in the world do you manage SlimFast with all the sugar?! My guess is that is what is making you throw up. I'm not post-op so I have no other suggestions. Some of the veterans should be able to help out.mcdjuls2002 wrote:

Hi!! I am 10 weeks post-op and have lost 57 pounds. Doing very well. But I am having trouble getting in 800 calories a day and 80 grams of protein. I work at Mcdonalds as a manager and have hardly anytime to sit down and eat. And if I do I usually end up throwing up because I have eaten too fast. Right now basically what I am eating or drinking at work is one percent milk and slim fast and cheese and crackers. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate any helpful hints.

I'm also not post op but I would dump the slim fast and have a protein drink like Pro Complex or Champions pure wheat whey instead. Two scoops in one drink will get you 50 grams of protein right there. I mix mine with Divinchi sugar free syrups and they taste great. Let's see what some of the post ops have to say.

Hi . . .

My first suggestion would be to get rid of the Slimfast and milk. A

good whey protein shake (made with water) can give you 30 grams of

protein for about 170 calories. When you do get a chance to eat at

home, try to eat meals with moist sources of animal protein. Soy and

such are harder to digest. I cook most meats in liquid - chicken in

mushroom broth, etc. Some people do very well with eggs - but, for the

longest time, I felt like I'd swallowed a rock whenever I ate an egg.

Tuna with a little no-fat mayo was one of the first things that I ate

and it remained a lunch-time staple for me for a long time.

Do you end up throwing up even when you have to time to eat at a more

moderate pace - like on your days off? About how much protein are you

getting these days? Hope you don't mind the questions.

Forgive me if I am missing something, but is there a reason that you are

shooting for 800 calories? Each program is different and I am just

curious if that is what is being recommended these days.

At 10 weeks out, I never managed to get in 800 calories. In looking

back at my FitDay records, I see that I was still at about 650 calories

a day at the 6-month mark. I spoke with my surgeon and the nutritionist

about that time and they didn't have a problem with my calorie intake -

but I was getting at least 70 grams of protein a day. I am over 11

months out now and am getting between 850 and 875 calories a day -

generally about 80-85 grams of protein.

Hope that you find some protein that sits well with you.

BTW congrats on 57 pound loss. You're off to a great start.

Take care,

Kay

Hi I agree with everyone else about the slimfast. It is NOT a protein shake esp with all of that sugar. One thing that I always keep in the freezer is healthy choice lunch meats...esp the chicken ones. When I need a portable lunch or do not have time to cook or deal with prep, I have some crackers and the healthy choice slices. the other suggestion is a salad so you have a one bowl meal with ckn or turkey or etc in it for the protein. (my salads have about one lettuce leaf in it! lol). Cottage cheese is pretty easy to carry, eat and digest. I sprinkle cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice on it, or some fat free or low fat salad dressing a teaspoon or so.

another thing that I find helpful is to cook a SKINNED chicken or chicken pieces in the crock pot for salads or just have for lunch or dinner.

hope this helps you get in a good place with your food.

I hope that slim fast that you are drinking is the low carb version??

Too much sugar in the regular ones!!

Other stuff that you might try:

Carb countdown smoothies (walmart)

Carb countdown dairy beverage - better choice for milk type thing,

more protien, less carbs...you could be dumping on the sugar in milk.

cottage cheese

low sugar yogurt (I like Dannon fit and ??) or some of the low carb

ones.

Beef Jerky, lunch meats, string cheese, some low carb protien

bars...just trying to think of some quick on the go type things you

could use. Hope you find something there that is helpful!

I usually throw up when i eat too quick. the liquid stuff is not the problem its solid food. I usually dont have time to a full three minutes between bites. The nutritionist told me thats what i needed to shoot for but getting around 600 would be ok. And about 45-55 grams of protein a day. And on my days off I eat regular meals and do not vomit. I guess I just more time and dont have it.
