But yes, they can cancel you insurance if you do not keep up on the monthly payments, it is not up to the company to pay for your coverage.As far as getting pay, that must be up to the company, my company doesn't pay anyone on leave and they don't have to.In CAlif. the only way to get " paid " while out is to go on state disability. This is exactly how i am able to be off work now. I got my disability approved, my company hired a company to help me do get it. They even did all the paper work. My company will let me stay off work totally disabled up to 5yrs then i would have to come back or quit. For right now i'm not going to quit just in case i start feeling better then i will go back to work partime. I would have had to pay my regular portion, but they couldn't make me pay the whole premium or go on Cobra. Law here states they have to continue with all medical and other benefits just the same as if I were working for up to 3 months. They don't have to pay you for that time though. You can use sick and vacation time but up to employer if they will pay anymore. They have to hold your job or place you in the same position somewhere else at same pay when you get back. Nancie is right about this. The insurance is your responsibility if you are on FMLA. I dont think many companies will pay for you if you are on FMLA. They normally will pay just for the time which you have accrued in vacation or sick days. FMLA is a Federal law. So it applies to all the states. Individual states may have laws which beef up the FMLA but they cannot lessen any of the requirements. Most states have the information available on line. If you have any particular FMLA questions I may be able to get answers for you. It is important to check the state laws as well as the FMLA just for things like that. The states will add benefits that is a good one. Not as good as some from Europe. I work for Sony Corporation and because of the fatigue and basic yuck from the treatments I've been on (which is nothing compared to some of you guys and gals), they have worked with me to take all my treatment days toward the family leave program. This will allow me to be paid 50% salary after using 5 personal (sick) days. So for every state which offers this type of program (family leave) you all should check with your HR dept's. If it a personal life-threatening type disease or you are taking specific treatments to counter the disease, you should be eligible. Check it out and let me know the results. Janet and Pete are real close by but I haven't had a chance to hook up with them yet and it is on my list of things I want to do. Our family enjoys camping in the catskills during the summer as well as the adarondacks (sp?); however, I miss CA and the weather there.
