Guest guest
Congrats on your upcomming bundle of joy. Consider joining OSSG-Pregnancy, it's a yahoo group for people dealing with pregnancy after weight loss surgery. Also, get in touch with an OB/GYN who deals with high risk pregnancies. Good luck. Guest guest
Are you kidding? He really told you that? Oh my gosh--obviously he doesn't know that WLS makes you a lot MORE fertile. I know of *so many* WLS patients who have gotten pregnant post-surgery. In fact, most doctors caution you to be diligent about birth control (and use extra precautions) because you are Fertile Myrtle! Geesh - this doc is just ignorant...at least, in this area. There is a great online yahoogroup for WLS patients who are pregnant or want to get pregnant. You might want to join it and lurk for awhile. It's called "OSSG-Pregnant" and you can access it by going to the Yahoogroups page http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-pregnant/ and then clicking on "Join this Group!" There is also a link there for a handout to take to your physician, entitled "Pregnancy After Gastric Bypass" !!! Let us know how it goes, Laurie W. pregnancy i was just told by my kaiser doc that i may not have anymore children now that i have had a gastric bypass. i am one year out and have lost 120 pounds. i have 30 more to go. the doc said that my pregnancy would be high risk and that i should have had all my kids before i decided to have this operation. she said i should forget about having anymore kids . what do you guys feel about this. im in northern california and if anyone knows of a different doc i could go to please let me know. i hope this is not my destiny. Guest guest
I just read an article that said wait one year. Laurie W. Re: pregnancy Hi....I'm certainly no expert here, but if memory serves me correctly the reccommedation for pregnancy is wait two years. I think I read that in my orientation manual. Hope you get the green light afterall.RegardsGordy36 cubes away from WLS> > i was just told by my kaiser doc that i may not have anymore > children now that i have had a gastric bypass. i am one year out and > have lost 120 pounds. i have 30 more to go. the doc said that my > pregnancy would be high risk and that i should have had all my kids > before i decided to have this operation. she said i should forget > about having anymore kids . what do you guys feel about this. im in > northern california and if anyone knows of a different doc i could > go to please let me know. i hope this is not my destiny. Guest guest
I think its a two year wait to become pregnant too. Many women have gone on to have sucessful pregnancies after WLS. In fact the surgery solved infertility problems for many children. I would certainly get a second opinion. > > > > i was just told by my kaiser doc that i may not have anymore > > children now that i have had a gastric bypass. i am one year out > and > > have lost 120 pounds. i have 30 more to go. the doc said that my > > pregnancy would be high risk and that i should have had all my kids > > before i decided to have this operation. she said i should forget > > about having anymore kids . what do you guys feel about this. im in > > northern california and if anyone knows of a different doc i could > > go to please let me know. i hope this is not my destiny. Guest guest
Mostly the reason they say to wait is because your weight loss should be stablized and not losing any longer before getting pregnant. Not to mention to be sure that all your nutrition levels are stable so as to not strip you of nutritients while supplying them to the baby. ===== Heidi Lauw
Guest guest
I believe this is probably 1 doctor's OPINION. Do a internet search for gastric bypass and pregnancy...lots of people have had babies after surgery. Sure, you are going to have to be careful...but I believe, that at least I, was a lot higher risk pregnancy at 415lbs then I would be now after WLS.
