Welcome to the Fibro club. Yes it affects teeth, gums and nails. My toe nails

have ridges.

I wonder if Fibro messes with the Vit D levels or calcium levels in our

bodies? I read another person's post who mentioned a low Vit D result. I

also have this.

My hair falls out like crazy! Much more than 100 strands a day

I've never had issues with my teeth or nails. However, two years ago, I had

to have a crown put on one of my molars, as it split in two!

My biggest issue, and has been for years, is that I have clumps of hair

always falling out. While they say that you loose around 100 strands a day,

I loose at least twice that many.

Fibro?

I am noticing a pattern. I have posted about this several months ago. It

seems most of us have dental issues with teeth breaking and brittle nails.

My nails have ridges on every one of them. My back teeth keep breaking.

I believe this is part of the fibro monster?

I do have ridges! I never thought those were fibro related. My great

grandfather used to tell Mom they were called 'fingernail wrinkles.' My

nails aren't overly brittle though, and I have fabulous teeth.

Ok, how did you know fibro affects teeth and nails? My nails are

strong and none of my teeth break since I have had fibro since 1991

or later.

Tigger,

What meds are causing your tooth problems.

Actually, who knows? I was on a lot of meds and when I was so bad off from

the fentanyl, I'm embarrassed to say I didn't take care of myself (or my

teeth) as well as I normally would have. Also, I would take a med and chew

it (yes, because of my by-pass I chew a lot of them) and then go to bed. It

would stay on the teeth and rot them.

> > Well, I don't remember when the ridges on the nails started and

the teeth have had lots of work over the years! But nails seem to

grow faster than ever -- which I think that

may because I am eating cheese more than ever. And several nails

grow strangely -- one sister, whom I never see anymore, kept asking

why I shaped two nails at an angle years ago --- that is until she

was in cosmotology and I spent a weekend so that I could be her genie

pig for the day and she did discover THEY DO NATURALLY GROW THAT

WAY!!

And I have put off going to the dentist so that I won't have to

listen to both the dentist and the hygentist yell at me! And

believe me they do plenty of that. The tartar builds up and

according to them I need cleanings every three months. Used to be

our insurance didn't pay for more than 2 a year now, supposedly we

have THE BEST COVERAGE of any patient in the practice!!!

But the toe nails are growing strangely --- both big " toes " look as

if I have banged them in some way and they were damaged at the root.

And they are very thick!!!

Oh, and back to the bladder problems, my doc said yesterday to use

the Kegel method! Told her I didn't think I had the ability teach

myself the exercise! Guess that sounds dumb but learning to breath

right is difficult too! But, I did get some equate liners yesterday

at Walmart. Will see how they work but may have to go to the pull

ups for adults! Coughing is slowing down, thought!

And thanks for the Fabreeze suggestion, I forgot about that! I do

need to remove the slipcover and have it cleaned but not until

sometime in the spring before we move!

Now I need to sort the pictures I copied last night at Walmart so

that I make sure I send all three aunts copies of each!! I copied my

pictures of my brother and the one that was apparently his first

grade picture certainly shows a boy I wish I could remember --- the

smile on his face is sweet but also mischievous; which I think

explains why he is still remember 50 years after his death! And I

can almost see him taking our aunts into stores in our home town and

introducing them as his " children! "

I'm going to jump in here because of the subject.

Recently, a friend of mine who has always had thin,

peeling and breaking nails suddenly had the longest

and strongest nails I have ever seen. They weren't

polished so I knew they were hers. When I asked her

how it happened she said the only thing she had

changed was that she drank an 8 oz. glass of 1% milk

every night. Within 2 to 3 weeks she had finger and

toe nails that were not only growing like crazy but

were thick as heck and difficult to cut. Some of our

friends noticed it the last time we were all together

playing cards and she reiterated that the only thing

she had done was to begin drinking the milk. She

always took her calcium as directed by her doctor. She

just decided to do this on her own. Strange, huh?

Tigger,

My teeth problems began when it took the drs more than a yr to dx me with gall

bladder probs. I would sip water and vomit for 5hrs. All that acid on my teeth

weakened then. Of course the fillings were also breaking down and needed to be

replacedand then they would fall out. Now my teeth are awful. The uppers that

were pulled are almosr healed. It takes so long with the diabetes etc.
