Can it be avoided by rotating absorbtion sites? Yes, long-term daily use on the exact same spot will cause deterioation of the skin. But, like you said, rotating your sites will eliminate this problem. I had chronic eczema for years on my hands (from Yellow 5 food color allergy), and docs gave me prescription HC cream. The itching was always so horrible at night that I couldn't sleep or would scratch it raw, so it was always this ugly, scabbed, oozing mess. Anyway, I'd rub HC cream on it every night before bed, which eased some of the itching. But over time, the skin became very thin, and broke easier when scratched. Once I finally figured out Yellow 5 was the cause of my problems and eliminated it completely from my diet, the itching stopped within 3 days, I stopped the cream, and the skin has gone back to normal.
